Topsham local, Paula, is celebrating after being selected as the winner of McCarthy Stone recent photography competition.

Run by the leading manager and developer of retirement communities behind the forthcoming Pym Court Retirement Living Plus development in Topsham, the competition called for local residents to share photographs of their favourite scenery, wildlife, and landscapes from all corners of the town.

The competition was judged by the Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Trish Oliver, who chose Paula’s sunset photograph entitled Underway in Topsham as the winning entry.

Paula, who was awarded £200 for winning the competition, said: “I love a sunset, I’d say I’m a little bit obsessed with taking photos of them as I’ve got thousands on my phone. The idea of photography amazes me, being able to capture a moving picture and looking into how you can capture something uniquely. I’d like to thank McCarthy Stone for running the competition, and to Councillor Trish Oliver for picking me as the winner.”

Councillor Trish Oliver commented: “I once went to Rick’s Cafe in Negril, Jamaica, which is supposed to be the most beautiful sunset in the world. Well, it wasn’t a patch on Topsham’s! The photo by Paula captured Topsham’s beauty so perfectly. Though, I have to say, all the entries were fantastic – each photographer should be really proud of their submission.”

Verity McKay, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone Southern, added: “All of the entries we received were brilliant, and I’d like to offer our congratulations to Paula for winning the competition. We have so many stunning views in and around Topsham and we were overwhelmed with the standard of the photographs we received.”
