Leading South West building services engineering company EX2 Group has welcomed three new apprentices this week, as they begin their professional training in Electrical Installation with Exeter College.

Christian, Alfie, and Harvey were welcomed to the Exeter offices by James Rayner (right), Project Manager. The apprentices will combine on-site experience with classroom learning as they work towards their Level 3 Electrical Installation qualifications. Ned Boulting, ITV’s lead Tour de France commentator, will be returning to Exeter’s Corn Exchange on Friday 14th October with his one-man stage show to provide a fresh assault on your cycling senses.

The cunningly entitled “Re-Tour de Ned” is an indispensable theatrical road map for anyone aspiring to wear the yellow jersey on the Champs Elysées: a really very rough guide to the tactics (pedal faster) and challenges (not pedalling fast enough) which will need to be deployed to win the biggest bike race in the world.

Most people will continue to act cautiously even without restrictions

The vast majority of people will stay at home if they develop symptoms of coronavirus, according to a Devon County Council poll .

Of more than 3,500 responses so far (submitted by midday today, Monday 14 March), around 2,910 say they will do just that, rather than risk spreading it to others.

194 respondees say that they won't, and 402 were unsure what they'll do.

Asked whether they'll carry on wearing face coverings when in crowded indoor spaces, again most people - 2,780 of the responses - say that they will, 452 say that they won't, and 274 were unsure....

People have been noticing nature much more during lockdowns, as garden birds and other wildlife have helped lift spirits and connect us to the world outside. A recent survey commissioned by the RSPB showed that 41% of participants reported seeing wildlife near their homes that they had never noticed before between 2020 and 2021.

Almost half of the UK population have said they have tried to attract nature to their gardens but the RSPB is keen to highlight that many of our threatened species don’t use gardens and nest boxes when raising young.

People urged to stay away if they have Covid as Devon’s hospitals remain under severe pressure

“Please don’t visit friends and family in our hospitals if you have Covid or other illnesses” – that’s the message from Devon’s NHS, as the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 remains high.

Many of the restrictions brought in to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the community have come to an end, but people are still required to wear a mask in health settings and are being asked to wash and sanitise their hands.

And anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 or other illnesses that can spread easily, such as flu or norovirus, is urged not to visit patients in hospital....

Devonshire Freemasons together with The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) has awarded more than £4.7m through four Covid-19 relief programmes, focusing on community support, food support, domestic abuse, homelessness and mental health.

Exeter City debut big screen

A giant new electronic screen at Exeter City Football Club’s ground, St James Park, has finally made its debut.

The club was given permission for the 29 x 17-feet (8.64 x 5.12 metre) LED screen by the city council around the start of the season last August, but delays meant fans had to wait until Saturday to see it in action for the first time.
