Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

Sir Ben’s award was in recognition of public service, including his achievements to boost the quality of schools in Exeter, bring jobs to the city and his campaigning for LGBT rights.

During his 27 years as Exeter’s MP he worked to bring the Met Office to the city and worked closely with the University of Exeter and others in the community to bring about a huge school reorganisation and rebuilding...

Ticket designs unveiled for RWC2015

Judi: Crescendo of complaints grows

Just two posts on BBC Devon’s Facebook page about the departure of Judi Spiers have attracted almost 1,000 comments.

Meanwhile, another 1,000 people have backed a campaign called @bringbackjudi on Facebook and Twitter.

It appears that although BBC bosses had hoped the crescendo of complaints would die down after Judi’s last show, on Friday, they appear to be gaining momentum.

The target for most of the criticism is the station’s managing editor, Mark Grinnell.

Virtual Jet Centre highly rated

Celebratuions are underway at Devon’s award-winning Virtual Jet Centre after staff received their 250th five star review on online travel review site tripadvisor.

The centre offers members of the public the chance to experience the feeling of actually flying in their bespoke simulator, taught by real pilots.

Public sector organisations are doing more to reuse items of furniture or office equipment by passing them on to someone else rather than throwing them away.

Council holds apple tree care day for residents at new community orchard in Exmouth

Tree care and campfire cooking was the order of the day on Saturday 13 June at the Littleham Community Orchard, at Bidmead Close in Littleham. Local people came to check on the apple trees, which they had planted in February, as well as to put mulch around the tree bases and cook some bread twists on a campfire.

Cat owners fail to realise the impact of their cat on wildlife according to new research, published today (26 June), from the University of Exeter and Queen Mary University of London.

Cats are increasingly earning themselves a reputation as wildlife killers with estimates of animals killed every year by domestic cats in the UK numbering into the millions. This new study on the attitudes of cat owners suggests that proposals to keep cats indoors in order to preserve wildlife would not be well received.

Judi social media revolution grows

A social media revolution is growing over the decision by BBC Radio Devon boss Mark Grinnell to axe the Judi Spiers show.

Hundreds of people have taken to Twitter and Facebook to express their anger and dismay.

A Facebook post announcing Judi’s last show this morning had received more than 100 comments in just over an hour meanwhile, a statement made online by Mr Grinnell yesterday has attracted a whopping 550 responses.

A campaign set up on both twitter and facebook called Bring Back Judi has almost 1,000 followers.

A bright future for a brand new town

A huge amount has been achieved since work began at Cranbrook in June 2011. The first residents collected their keys in summer 2012 and St Martin’s C of E Primary School opened its doors shortly after - all when there were less than 50 homes occupied.
