Improved recycling service for Teignbridge

Information about Teignbridge’s improved waste and recycling service will be dropping through the letterboxes of the district’s homes over the coming months.

Teignbridge is changing its waste and recycling service to make it easier for people to recycle more. The scheme is being rolled out across the district in three phases and will start in September and end in November.

Fire crews tackle shed blaze in Exeter

Fire crews were called to a shed fire in Burnthouse Lane, Exeter this afternoon (Wednesday 29 July).

An appliance from Danes Castle and one from Middlemoor along with the rapid intervention unit attended a fire within an outdoor storage shed attached to a property just before 3.30pm.

Crews arrived and got to work with breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to put the fire out.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental, and the storage shed was moderately damaged by the fire.

Plans underway to safeguard Crediton services

Devon County Council is proposing to move the town’s children’s centre into the nearby library on Belle Parade in order to save money and improve the services on offer.

Successful South Devon Link Road open day

Over 3,000 local people were among the first to walk along a section of the South Devon Link Road project on Saturday (25 July).

Approximately 3,500 people visited the site and were allowed to walk a 3km stretch of the new road at a unique Community Open Day event.

The idea behind the day was to give locals the opportunity to review the progress so far and walk along a stretch of the new route, months before traffic is permitted to drive on the road.

Three local men are cycling the length of the country to raise funds for Exeter-based charity Rainbow Living.

Key information is being sent out next week to around 1,800 households living in the Feniton and Exmouth (The Colony) areas giving details of an improved recycling collection service which is to be trialled by East Devon District Council.

From mid-September, residents in these areas will be able to recycle more in their green recycling boxes as the council is adding cardboard and mixed plastics to the extensive number of items it already collects from the kerbside each week.

Artists from Devon have been invited to exhibit their works in Essen, once a centre of the German mining and steel industry.

They will be presenting paintings of the beautiful landscapes of Devon and Cornwall.
