Cat charity celebrates a year in new site and over 500 cats helped

A cat centre in Clyst Honiton is marking the first anniversary of its move to state-of-the-art facilities which have allowed the team to help over 500 cats since opening.

Cats Protection Devon Cat Centre, located just off Sidmouth Road, moved into its new building on 15 November 2023 after more than two years of construction works. East Devon homes thrown out for being 'too small'

East Devon councillors have turned down a development scheme at Clyst Honiton because the homes are “too small” and it would encourage peope to drive.

Planners were not prepared to accept proposals 10 square metres below standards recommended in national planning guidelines despite approving houses of the same size earlier this year.

Over 1,000 trees planted and more help is needed

Volunteers helped to put over 1,000 trees in the ground at community planting days held near Clyst Honiton recently.

By the end of the second planting day, volunteers had planted more than half of the total number of trees for Mosshayne farm, which meant they had completed the first wood on “the island” – the name of one of the new woods located between the River Clyst and a leat. It means that more than a thousand new trees are now in the ground.

Britain’s fastest growing supermarket, Lidl UK, has revealed plans to open its 12th Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in East Devon, following the submission of a planning application to build the 50,000 m² warehouse on a site at Clyst Honiton. The submission of the application follows the purchase of the site in February of this year, and will pave the way for up to 500 new jobs for the area.

Fire crews tackle blaze near Exeter

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a property near Exeter this morning (Wednesday 12 August).

Three appliances from Middlemoor and Danes Castle were sent to reports of a fire at a property in Ship Lane, Clyst Honiton at around 2am.

On arrival crews discovered a fire in the kitchen of the bungalow measuring approximately 15m x 10m in size.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, one attack jet, one thermal imaging camera and one positive pressure ventilation fan.

The ambulance service was requested to deal with one elderly male suffering slight smoke...

Dozens of firefighters tackle barn blaze

Dozens of firefighters were called to tackle a large barn fire involving 4,000 litres of diesel near Exeter in the early hours of today (Sunday 9 August).

Fire engines from Middlemoor, Danes Castle and Topsham were sent to the blaze at New House Farm in Clyst Honiton at around 1am.

On arrival crews requested a fourth appliance. The water bowser from Danes Castle and the incident command unit from Honiton were also sent, and the fourth appliance came from Ottery St Mary.

Airport access road improvements

Work to upgrade the access road to Exeter International Airport is due to start on Tuesday 26 August.

The £1.4 million scheme will increase the width of the B3184, improving the link from the A30 to Exeter Airport and the nearby Exeter Airport Business Park.

The current narrow width of the road causes traffic congestion, particularly for larger vehicles and HGVs. Widening the existing layout will improve traffic visibility and increase safety for road users. It will also support growth of the airport and would enable the road to cope with any increase in vehicles.

A new £9 million road which is a vital link to major employment sites in the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point is now complete and has opened to traffic today (Thursday 3 October).

The Clyst Honiton Bypass opens up direct accesses into Skypark business park, the Intermodal Freight Terminal, the new community of Cranbrook and other developments nearby and will keep heavy traffic off smaller local roads around the village of Clyst Honiton. The godfather of modern cooking, Marco Pierre White, popped in to his new Exeter restaurant where he entertained guests during its official opening.

Located in Clyst Honiton the new restaurant is called Marco’s New York Italian and is the latest eaterie to be opened by the Godfather of modern cooking and original ‘enfant terrible’!
