Marco checks out new Exeter restaurant

The godfather of modern cooking, Marco Pierre White, popped in to his new Exeter restaurant where he entertained guests during its official opening.

Located in Clyst Honiton the new restaurant is called Marco’s New York Italian and is the latest eaterie to be opened by the Godfather of modern cooking and original ‘enfant terrible’!

While there guests were treated to glasses of bubbly followed by a three-course meal that featured dishes from the chef's new menu. They also chatted to the 'Hell’s Kitchen' star who mingled with his guests as they soaked up the lively atmosphere.

With checked black and white flooring and red gingham napkins, the new 92-cover family-friendly restaurant has been styled to replicate the hustle and bustle of a classic New York Italian.

Making the most of fresh local produce Marco’s serves quality American-Italian food including a selection of fresh pastas, steaks, seafood, burgers and handmade pizzas.

At 33, White was the youngest British chef to receive three Michelin stars and his contributions to contemporary international cuisine are well renowned. He now hopes the people of Exeter and Devon will be able to enjoy his style of New York dining.

He said: “I’m delighted that this new restaurant is now open so that the people of Exeter can experience my own take of a New York Italian. It was also great to meet so many people who came along on the day.

“I have been to many Italian restaurants in New York so for me making sure the atmosphere is right is vitally important as it sends a clear message to the diner that there is a strong passion for the food, quality of service and overall dining experience.

“The idea behind this restaurant is to create an environment where people can sit and enjoy their life, where diners can have a good time and enjoy traditional Italian favourites at any time of the day.

“This new restaurant is all about providing a place where people can go for some nice food and a nice bottle of wine in a relaxed, affordable and family-friendly setting.

“We want people to come here and make their visit as formal or informal, expensive or inexpensive as they wish. If a mum wants somewhere to take the kids out for a bite to eat then this is the place. Equally, business people wanting somewhere to take clients will find this the perfect venue.”

“People who go out to eat and spend their hard earned money deserve excellent service, good food at a price that is affordable. That’s what Marco’s New York Italian is all about.”

Simon Fordham, general manager added: “It was wonderful for Marco to visit and to check everything was to his exacting standards. He has such a presence and his charisma is almost palatable.

“The staff were buzzing and atmosphere electric and we now aim to continue in this vein for all customers.”

Primi dishes include Chargrilled asparagus, poached egg, parmesan crust, Antipasto Misto or Prosciutto, salami with melon while the main courses has a selection of classic pastas, risotto, pizzas, burgers, steaks and ribs.

Of course no New York Italian is complete without a selection of sumptuous desserts and with Tiramisu and New York Cheesecake Marco’s is no exception.
