Race for Life turns passion into progress

Nearly 4,000 women united at Westpoint Arena in Exeter yesterday with one mission in mind – to conquer cancer.

Together they have raised just under £220,000.

Now Cancer Research UK is calling on Exeter’s formidable army of mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to make every step count by paying in their sponsorship money as soon as possible.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k and 10k events which raises millions of pounds every year to fund life-saving research.

With warmer weather, lighter evenings and six weeks until Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Exeter, Devon women are being urged to put a spring in their step by signing up to the 5k or new 10k event.

Taking part in Race for Life at Westpoint Arena is a great way for women of all shapes and sizes to enjoy the outdoors and get a little more active as they prepare for their event.

Committing to take part, and encouraging their mums, grans, daughters, sisters and friends to join them, gives participants a target to aim for, in terms of getting a bit fitter and raising money...

Refunds offered for Saturday Show tickets

The Devon County Show is offering a full refund to everyone who bought tickets in advance but was unable to use them on Saturday, May 24. The decision was made at a Board of Management meeting of the Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) held on Monday, May 26. DCAA Chairman of the Board of Management, John Maunder, said: “Whilst the abandonment of the Show was forced on us by the extreme weather conditions, and will have a significant financial impact, we want to do right by our paying visitors.

Duke of Kent to visit Devon County Show

The Duke of Kent is to attend the Devon County Show at Westpoint, Exeter on Friday, May 23. It will be The Duke’s first visit to the county’s largest annual event where he will be accompanied by Show President Sir Eric Dancer, KCVO, CBE, JP, the Lord Lieutenant of Devon. Westpoint offers charities the chance to stage an event for free

This year marks Westpoint Exeter’s 25th birthday!

And to kick off the celebrations Westpoint has announced it is offering four charities the chance to stage their own event at the venue for free. Charities large and small are invited to apply for this unique opportunity with one of the south-west’s largest exhibition and entertainment venues. With free access to the Function Room, Wadsworth Pavilion log cabin and Showground, the charities can let their imaginations run wild. Devon's County Show's double celebrations

The Devon County Agricultural Association, organisers of the Devon County Show, the county’s largest annual event, is gearing up for a double celebration this year.

2014 will be the 119th County Show, an annual celebration of farming, food and the countryside, and it is 25 years since the Association took ownership of the Westpoint showground, which is home to the County Show and its wholly owned subsidiary company - Westpoint Centre (Devon).
