Princesshay to host free family fun day in Easter holidays

On Saturday 15th April, 11am – 4pm, Princesshay Square will be transformed into a vibrant pop-up Family Fun Day with a range of free activities to keep visitors of all ages entertained during the Easter holidays.

Road users are being asked to travel with care this weekend as rain is forecast and flooding likely in several areas.

A Yellow Weather Warning is in place with heavy rain expected intermittently from mid-morning Friday 18 February to midday Sunday 20 February.

Over the three days many areas will see between 10-20mm of rainfall, with as much as 150mm falling over the three days on top of Dartmoor.

Additionally, there is the potential for shorter lived, more intense spells of rain almost anywhere.

The number of people using a bicycle for work or leisure in England has rocketed since the lockdown began on 23 March, according to figures released by the Department for Transport.

The data reveals that daily bicycle use rose by an average of 50% on working days during lockdown, while the number of weekend and bank holiday bike riders shot up by 136% over the same period.

People are being reminded to stay at home and only make essential journeys during the coronavirus lockdown.

The advice from Devon County Council comes as traffic figures from a sample of 10 automatic traffic counters on Devon’s A-roads have shown that traffic volumes have started to creep up over the past week.

During the first two weeks of the lockdown, there was a dramatic reduction in traffic of around 68%/69% – with daily trips on those roads down to around 57,000 from around 178,000 at the same time last year.

Groups of people visiting Dartmoor for barbecues and people driving over 15 miles to walk their dog– these are just a couple examples of the issues Dartmoor National Park Rangers are with dealing with during the Covid-19 emergency.

Devon braced for Storm Dennis

Devon is bracing itself for another weekend of stormy conditions with the arrival of Storm Dennis this weekend (Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 February).

A Yellow Warning for strong winds and rain across the whole of Devon has been issued by the Met Office for most of Saturday and Sunday, with an Amber Warning for heavy rain in the south of the county.

Seaton hosts Great British Seaside Weekend

Vintage entertainment, live music and traditional seaside activities, as well as the 15th Velo Vintage Occasion and Ride, are part of the ‘Great British Seaside Weekend’ taking place in Seaton on Saturday 22ndJune.
