Exeter Chiefs’ Urban Rugby Squad ready to defend title as National Festival winners

While Exeter Chiefs’ community delivery manager Andrew Dudley would love to win Premiership Rugby's Urban Rugby Squad title for the second year, he says generating even more success stories from the project is priority number one.

The Urban Rugby Squad is a ground-breaking initiative run by Premiership Rugby and its clubs, helping 1,000 young people aged 14-16 from disadvantaged communities across England.

In its first year, the scheme helped 778 young people and delivered 136 personal development workshops on topics such as anger management and sexual health.

Exmouth residents reminded to secure their homes

Exmouth police are reminding residents in the town to keep their windows and doors locked at all times, even when inside their homes.

In the last month there has been an increase in burglaries at urban areas in Exmouth that have occurred overnight, while the occupants are upstairs sleeping.

Entry has been gained by ground floor doors that have been left unlocked, and various small items such as alcohol, cash and small electrical goods have been stolen.

Local MP presets petition to defend rural spending

Last night, Neil Parish MP, presented the Rural Fair Share Petition signed by the residents of Tiverton and Honiton. The Rural Fair Share campaign is calling on the Government to address the ongoing disparity in funding between rural and urban areas.

The campaign is set up to counter policies such as the rural penalty which sees urban areas receive 50% more support per head than rural areas. Green spaces may boost wellbeing for city dwellers

New research published in the journal Psychological Science has found that people living in urban areas with more green space tend to report greater wellbeing than city dwellers that don’t have parks, gardens, or other green space nearby. The research has been led by Dr Mathew White from the University of Exeter Medical School’s European Centre for Environment & Human Health. Superfast model brain to predict flooding during heavy rain

Heavy rain has once again resulted in widespread flooding across the country. With climate change likely to cause further severe weather events in the coming years, methods of quickly predicting flooding will become increasingly important.

A team of engineers and scientists from the University of Exeter has developed a model, 1,000 times faster than existing flood prediction systems, which can rapidly predict when and where flooding will occur. The final fo the third annual FBUK VIP DJ competition. Aphrodite is a UK jungle and drum and bass DJ/producer who works along with Micky Finn on their joint Urban Takeover label. One of the oldest drum and bass producers, he largely contributed to and influenced the genre's current styles and techniques and we're proud to have him at the cavern tonight, both judging this DJ competition final and playing out the night.
