£10 million boost to South West health research

A partnership that supports research in Devon and Cornwall with direct benefits to patients’ health and NHS care delivery has secured £10m in funding for the next five years.

The National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care in the South West Peninsula (NIHR PenCLAHRC) was established as one of the first nine CLAHRCs in the country in 2008. Russell Seal fitness Centre to change Exeter’s fitness landscape

Construction work on the new £6.5 million Russell Seal Fitness Centre at the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus is nearing completion.

Opening on 23 September, the Centre marks the final stage of the University’s £8 million redevelopment of Streatham Sports Park, and promises to bring a world-class training facility to the city for the first time.

Research carried out at the University of Exeter Medical School on the monitoring of blood pressure has received the Royal College of General Practitioners Research Paper of the Year Award in the stroke category.
