Devon’s countryside charity begins its 2023 search for young artists

The Devon branch of the countryside charity CPRE is looking for budding young artists who can capture the beauty and variety of the county’s natural landscapes, from its wild moorlands to its sheltered river valleys.

Young artists aged 18 and under have until the end of September to submit a painting, drawing, textile, collage, or mixed media artwork of a Devon view to win the coveted title of Devon’s Best Young Landscape Artist 2023. The landscape could be a favourite beach or beauty spot, a local park or green space, somewhere visited on a day out or even the artist’s back garden...

Let's Talk Teenagers is a series of online support sessions and an opportunity for parents and carers of teenagers to hear about the challenges young people are facing today and discover ways to help them navigate their way through them.

An online series of webinars starting next month aim to help parents and carers understand and support their teenagers to navigate the challenges they might face as they grow up in today’s world .

Tribute paid to teenagers who died after collapsing in Plymouth nightclub

Tributes have been paid to teenagers Aaron Reilly and Joshua Brock who both tragically died after collapsing in Pryzm nightclub in Plymouth.

Police were informed by ambulance at around 1.40am on Saturday 9 December of two men unconscious at Pryzm nightclub in Plymouth. Aaron and Josh, both 19-years-old later died at hospital.

Exeter Tennis Centre awarded funding to deliver Tennis 4 Teens

Exeter Tennis Centre has been awarded £1,800 by the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) Play Tennis Fund to deliver a free tennis programme called Tennis 4 Teens.

Beginning on Wednesday 1 March, children aged 14 to 16 will learn practical tennis skills in fun and sociable sessions. Teens hospitalised after taking prescription drugs

On Friday 3 June 2016 a number of teenagers in Sidmouth took a prescription only drug called Alprazolam, which is manufactured as Xanax.

Five teenagers, aged 17 and 18, were seriously ill as a result and were treated in intensive care at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Officers form CID and the local policing team in Sidmouth are investigating the matter and enquiries are continuing.

An 18-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the drugs and is currently on bail until 22 August pending further enquiries.

Intense exercise bursts can reduce heart risk to teens

Adolescents who perform just eight to ten minutes of high-intensity interval exercise three times a week could be significantly reducing their risk of developing heart conditions, new research has concluded.

Even apparently healthy teenagers showed significant improvements in markers which are indicators of cardiovascular health, according to research by the University of Exeter.
