Children from four East Devon primary schools today (Friday 20 November) had the chance to experience first-hand how their local district council is run.

The 40 pupils, aged 10 to 11 years, who visited East Devon District Council’s offices at Knowle in Sidmouth, were taking part in national Takeover Challenge Day, which aims to get children and young people involved with how public service decisions are made. It also provides organisations, such as local authorities, with a fresh perspective on the services they run.

Did you spot the Oxjam van in Exeter?

Exeter’s Oxjam Takeover kicked off with a great start. Jam in a Van was the first of three events leading up to the main event at Exeter Castle on October 17. All of the team was out and about on Saturday Aug 1 to spread the word about this vital fundraising music festival, which is a national event in aid of Oxfam. The Oxjam team met some wonderful people ranging from the extremely supportive staff at Waitrose, to an 80 year gentleman with a...

Charity music festival returns to Exeter

Over 50 cities host multi-venue events during October, which are all organised by volunteers who know and love their music scene.

Oxjam 2015 has announced that on Saturday 17 October Exeter Castle will be hosting their main-stage event – running it in conjunction with the largely anticipated Exeter Castle Festival of Rugby.

The castle has donated its courtyard, successfully...

Forty pupils from local primary schools "took over" East Devon District Council for a day and had a go at running things.

They even got a ‘taste’ of the work done by EDDC’s Environmental Health inspectors when they visited Sam ’n Ella’s kitchen at Knowle in Sidmouth for a food hygiene check.

On Friday 22 November pupils from the following five schools visited the Council’s HQ to learn more about its services and meet Staff and Councillors:

• St Martin’s in Cranbrook • All Saints’ in Axminster • Bassetts Farm in Exmouth • Branscombe Primary School • Broadhembury...
