Exeter Central Library, which is being refurbished by Mansell, a Balfour Beatty brand, will be opening its doors to the public on 27 and 28 September for the UK Contractors Group Open Doors Weekend. Open Doors Weekend aims to promote the diverse world of modern construction by giving the public access to selected construction sites around the UK. The Guardian Charity Awards 2013 shortlist, announced today, has St Petrock’s, Exeter’s charity for people who are homeless, among its list of successful charities. Five of these charities will find out in October whether they will share the £25,000 prize money and other prizes.

The rapidly-growing 50+ Show, which is already held each year in London, Manchester and Glasgow and will be held for the first time in Birmingham this 2013, is about to take place for the first time in Exeter in 2014. The 50+ Show is the largest exhibition in the UK specifically for the active over 50s.
