Important milestone towards community ownership of Sidbury pub

East Devon District Council has agreed to the request from Save The Red Lion Campaign to list the Red Lion pub in Sidbury village, East Devon, as an Asset of Community Value under the 2012 Localism Act. Save The Red Lion Campaign, which with increasing local support is campaigning to retain the Red Lion pub in Sidbury village, east Devon, is pleased to announce that it now has another local Campaign Patron – The Reverend Susie Williams. The Campaign already has local MP, the Rt Hon Hugo Swire as a Patron.

Susie is one of the Team Vicars within the Sid Valley Team Ministry, with special responsibility for the parishes of Woolbrook and Sidbury with Sidford.

Hugo Swire MP becomes Save The Red Lion campaign patron

The Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP last week became the patron of the Save The Red Lion campaign. The campaign is fighting to retain the pub in Sidbury for the local community.

Hugo Swire told a packed pub that he was pleased to agree to become the Campaign's Patron as "The pub is part of the community, it's a wonderful asset for the village - it would be a very sad day when its closed".

There are only two weeks left for Sidmouth, Sidbury and Sidford residents, voluntary and community groups and other organisations to get their ideas in for how they want £150,000 to be spent on sport in the area.

On Wednesday 5 June ITV's Daybreak breakfast television programme will be live at the Red Lion pub in Sidbury village.

Save The Red Lion campaign supporters will be speaking live on the television programme explaining why they believe Sidbury village needs to retain its only pub.

Great Duck Derby

The Lions Club of Sidmouth stage their Great Duck Derby on the River Sid on Sunday 14 July.

The fun starts shortly after 2pm at Sid Park Road bridge in the Byes, with the children's and parents "duck and spoon" races, which will be followed by the corporate duck race with little red ducks.

The main duck race starts at 3pm when hundreds of ducks enter the River Sid from the Sid Park Road bridge and "race" downstream to the weir by Salcombe Road. Cash prizes ranging from £20 to £400 will be allocated to the ‘owners’ of the first 19 ducks that cross the finishing line....
