Councillors put under the spotlight

A group of councillors from East Devon District Council, Devon County Council and Ottery St Mary Town Council were recently put under the spotlight at King’s School in Ottery St Mary, when they were subjected to tough questions fired at them every three minutes by 180 Year 11 pupils during two rounds of political speed dating.

East Devon District Councillor Phil Twiss was voted a clear winner at both events and spoke highly of the well thought out questions he was asked and how happy he was to meet such enthusiastic young people.

Blundell’s Chemists to represent West region - again

Three Year 12 pupils at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, will be representing the West at the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Schools’ Analyst national final, having just won the regional heat.

The team of Yuli Lu, Francis Huntingford and Toby Whitehead finished first in the Western Region, ahead of schools such as Exeter, Cheltenham Ladies College and Bristol Grammar School. It’s the second successive year that a Blundell’s team has won this event, which is organised by the RSC Analytical Division for first year sixth form students studying chemistry.

Four pupils at Blundell’s School, Tiverton, are celebrating after receiving offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Ben Ames has an offer to read Earth Sciences at Exeter College, Oxford and Silvia Mills (Post A level applicant) to read Philosophy and Linguistics at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, while Natalie Cotton and Eleanor Ansell have both had offers from Cambridge – Natalie to read Natural Sciences at Newnham and Eleanor to read Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at Homerton College. Exeter School Choral Society Concert 2016

Exeter School is looking forward to performing three contrasting pieces for the annual Choral Society concert held at Exeter Cathedral on Thursday 17 March. A primary school teacher from Devon has launched a new app, 'Fonics' designed to help 3-6 year olds learn to read more efficiently.

Work by Exeter School artists on display

Artwork produced by year 7 Exeter School pupils last summer is currently on display in the newly reopened Truffles Bistro and Pizzeria on Magdalen Road in Exeter.

The walls of the café are adorned with vibrant mixed media monoprints of Exeter Cathedral inspired by artist John Piper. Truffles Bistro is open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 4pm and the Pizzeria is open from 6.30 - 9.pm on Tuesday and Saturday evenings.

Students at the Maynard School enjoyed a pre-Christmas treat when Victoria Holmes, creator and editor of the hugely popular Warriors series, hosted all day workshops and book signings in the library on Tuesday 1 December 2015.

The author had been invited to the school on the insistence of a number of girls who have been completely fascinated by the best-selling books depicting an exciting fantasy world of wild cats who live in clans in the forest.
