Chiefs side to face Cardiff Blues

Exeter Chiefs coach Ricky Pellow has described Sunday’s Anglo-Welsh Cup clash with Cardiff Blues as a ‘must-win’ encounter if the Devon club harbour any hopes of qualification to the latter stages.

Undone a week ago at Harlequins 29-15, the Chiefs return to home soil this weekend determined to not only bounce back from that result, but also rediscover their winning formula after a testing few weeks of results across the board.

As is the case in this tournament, the Devon club are not afraid to let youth have it’s chance and blooded a handful of academy graduates off the...

Exeter Chiefs 10 Bath Rugby 13

The clocks may have gone back overnight, but Bath used over time at Sandy Park to seal themselves a priceless Aviva Premiership victory over Exeter Chiefs.

Winger Semesa Rokoduguni landed the knockout blow for Todd Blackadder’s high-flying oufit, flooring the Devon outfit with a try seven minutes into added on time.

The England international powered his way to the line to seal a remarkable result for the visitors, whose other points on the day came from the boot of George Ford.

Up until then, however, Rob Baxter’s side looked to have been on course for a notable...

A turf cutting has been held to mark the recent start of improvements to the A379 Sandy Park Junction in Exeter

Earthworks are underway on the £2.5 million upgrade to create a signalised junction which will allow all traffic movements. A recent overnight closure has enabled temporary barriers to be installed to protect the workforce and also road users from excavations.

The current junction, which accesses Sandy Park rugby ground and David Lloyd leisure centre, has a ‘left-in, left-out’ traffic system. The upgrade will enable right turns in and out of the site in order to...

Chiefs 8 Clermont 35

A bit like the Incredible Hulk, you don’t want to see him angry, but an angry Rob Baxter pulled no punches after watching his side slip to defeat in their European Champions Cup opener against ASM Clermont Auvergne.

Having watched his side make a spluttering start to this season’s Aviva Premiership campaign, the Chiefs failed to fire at all against the star-studded Frenchmen, who inspired by Wesley Fofana cruised their way to all five points at Sandy Park.

The talented French international helped himself to a brace of tries, while Julien Bardy, Noa Nakaitaci and Nick...

Chiefs side to face Clermont

Rob Baxter has made no secret of the fact that his Exeter Chiefs side must get off to a fast start in this season’s European Champions Cup.

Defeat on the road in round one of last season’s competition meant the Devonians were always playing catch-up, but that they did with aplomb, eventually advancing out of a group which included the Ospreys, Bordeaux-Begles and ASM Clermont Auvergne.

In a curious twist of fate the Chiefs again find themselves up against the two French clubs, along with Ulster Rugby, in what is another testing Pool Two.

However, Baxter says facing...

Exeter Chiefs 27 Gloucester 27

Damian Welch’s last-gasp try snatched a dramatic draw for Exeter Chiefs in an enthralling derby with Gloucester at Sandy Park.

With less than a minute remaining, Gloucester’s hopes of a second Aviva Premiership victory of the season were dashed when the Chiefs mauled their way over in the left-hand corner to tie the scores at 27-27.

Even then Rob Baxter’s side could have won it at the death, but the normally deadly Gareth Steenson was unable to land the tricky conversion from wide on the touchline.

Following a disappointing 15-6 defeat at the hands of Bath Rugby...
