Exeter Chiefs wing Jack Nowell has replaced Jonny May of Gloucester Rugby in a 26-man England training squad to prepare for Sunday's RBS 6 Nations match against Ireland.

Nowell, who featured in all five matches during last season's tournament, inspired his club to a 32-21 victory over Harlequins on Saturday after spending the preceding week at Pennyhill Park with Stuart Lancaster's starters from the previous weekend's defeat of Italy.

Elsewhere in the back three, Saracens full back Alex Goode – a veteran of the 12-6 win in Dublin two years ago – is retained while Mike Brown...

Chiefs claim victory over Quins

Match report: Harlequins 21 Exeter Chiefs 32

Rob Baxter admitted afterwards if he could bottle the desire shown by his players in this display, then it would be a remedy coaches around the world would be keen to dish out by the spoonful.

Exeter Chiefs moved back into the top three of the Aviva Premiership with a hard fought victory over Harlequins at the Twickenham Stoop.

Another masterful display from fly-half Henry Slade saw the young playmaker help himself to 27 points on the day, whilst flanker Ben White weighed in with the other score during an action-packed...

Chiefs side to face Harlequins

Having seen his side return to winning ways in the Aviva Premiership last weekend, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is hoping for more of the same at Harlequins tomorrow (Saturday 3pm).

Last Saturday’s 46-17 home win over Newcastle Falcons was just the pick-me-up the Westcountry outfit needed following a turgid run of league form either side of Christmas.

Four successive losses meant the Chiefs had allowed a number of their top flight rivals around them to close in - and with it create a bit of log-jam with regards to the positioning around the top end of the table....

Baxter: Italian star has the X-Factor

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Michele Campagnaro can help add some additional ‘X-Factor’ to his side’s back division next season.

Having already bolstered his options with the recruitment of both Geoff Parling and Ollie Woodburn in recent weeks, Baxter has ventured a little further afield for his third new capture who joins from Rabo ProDirect 12 side Benetton Treviso.

As always, the Chiefs supremo and his coaching team have monitored Campagnaro’s performance for some time and having put together a detailed assessment of the Mirano-born back, they...

European Sevens Series a major coup

Exeter Chiefs skills coach Ricky Pellow believes news that the European Grand Prix 7s Series is heading to the Westcountry is a major coup for the rugby-mad region.

After four successive defeats in the last block of top flight fixtures, Rob Baxter’s side rediscovered their winning formula with an outstanding display that yielded six tries at Sandy Park.

Fly-half Henry Slade claimed 19 points for the Devon club, including a first half try, and there were touchdowns for Jack Nowell, Thomas Waldrom, Phil Dollman and Haydn Thomas, as well...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter says he has a group of players looking forward to returning to Aviva Premiership duty today (Saturday) at home to Newcastle Falcons (4:30pm).

After a month of action which has seen the Devon club advance to the knock-out stages of both the European Challenge and LV= Cups, it’s back to the bread and butter of the top flight for the Chiefs.

Baxter has watched on with quiet satisfaction at the way his team has rediscovered their winning formula – particularly after they lost four successive Premiership games either side of Christmas – and he...

Chiefs fail to book a home semi-final

Match report: Saracens 35 Chiefs 18

If Exeter Chiefs are to become the first-ever side to reclaim the LV= Cup, then the hard work will have to be carried out in the rugby hotbed of the East Midlands.

The defending champions saw their hopes of a home semi-final blown away by a powerful second half display from Saracens at Allianz Park.

The Londoners produced a rock-solid display, both in attack and defence, to not only see off the Chiefs, but at the same time book their own place in the last four of the competition.

Tries from Tim Streather, Nick De Jager (2...
