New coffee pod recycling collections to start in Exeter

People in Exeter can take advantage of a new kerbside recycling service for plastic and aluminium coffee pods, the City Council has announced.

Starting on 24 January, Exeter residents will be able to have their coffee pods collected from home.

The City Council has teamed up with Podback, a not-for-profit coffee recycling service, to offer the free collections.

As residents in Devon admire their collection of Christmas cards on window sills and shelves, many will be hoping to do their bit for the environment, after Twelfth Night, by putting them in recycling bins.

Garden waste service suspended for two weeks

Garden waste collections in Exeter have been temporarily suspended as a result of the current HGV driver shortage caused by Covid-19 and self-isolation rules. Customers will have their hire period extended to make up for the suspension.

Collections of brown bins will stop from tomorrow (Wednesday 4 August) and last eight working days. At the moment the plan is to resume collections again on Monday 16 August.

Sing it out and sing it loud! A Devon town is boosting its green credentials by encouraging people to take reusable cups to local cafes - and there’s even a special song created to celebrate the initiative.

Exeter entrepreneur welcomes Innovate UK funding for lithium ion battery recycling

The surge in electric vehicles has created a need for effective lithium ion battery recycling in the UK and a South West entrepreneur is helping to find a solution. Fenix Battery Recycling, which was set up by Exeter-based entrepreneur Damian Lambkin and a group of waste management experts, along with Ever Resource and the University of Birmingham have received £955K in grant funding to develop an innovative technology to make lithium ion battery recycling cleaner and more sustainable.

Communities across Devon have the chance to rehome every-day items they no longer need simply by leaving them outside their front door every Tuesday, starting 6th April.

The new initiative is called ‘Tuesday Tables’ and is part of Recycle Devon’s commitment to help residents reduce the amount of waste we throw away.
