Exeter students gear up for motorsports

The launch of this year’s Formula 1 season is only a matter of weeks away, but prestigious racing teams such as McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull aren’t the only ones undertaking crucial racing preparations.

A team of students from the University of Exeter are gearing up to take part in the world’s largest student motorsport competition, to be held in July.

The Engineering students will pit their skills and ingenuity against 114 other teams from 38 countries worldwide at the Formula Student competition, which will be held at the home of British motorsport, Silverstone.

Exeter Racecourse has launched a fabulous new art competition for children aged 11 and under with the overall winner featured on the front page of its racecard on Family Day, April 15.

Exeter want children to come up with vibrant designs which depict the colour and vibrancy of a day at the races, from the brightly coloured silks worn by jockeys, to smiling faces in the crowds.

There are prizes to third place in each category – seven and under and eight to 11 - including vouchers from Leonard Coombe Master Saddlers and Country Life, family tickets to the races as well as the...

New Year’s Day on Haldon Hill is a great Devon tradition and folk from far and wide gather at the racecourse to toast the first day of the year.

It’s the perfect day out for anyone who is new to racing with a great atmosphere guaranteed.

The BetVictor Haldon Gold Cup headlines Devon’s premier raceday

The excitement of winter jump racing will reach a crescendo on Haldon Hill next Tuesday when the BetVictor Haldon Cup, Devon’s richest race, comes under starters orders at 2.50pm.

A plethora of future jump racing stars are set to line up at Exeter Racecourse today (Tuesday 22 October) when the course stages its annual Best Mate Novice Chase Day.

That particular race is named after the legendary racehorse Best Mate who began his glittering career over fences at Exeter in 2000. He went on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup three times and amass over £1 million in prize money.

Clydesdales to hit the racetrack at Exeter

A race with a difference will take place at Exeter Racecourse on Sunday 24 November when half a dozen or so Clydesdales will be thundering down the home straight with professional jockeys on board.

They belong to Tim Ancrum of Adventure Clydesdales which specializes in providing riding holidays across Dartmoor.
