Steve French, an ex-serviceman from Exeter, will take on Exeter’s Rock Solid Race in March to raise money for Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a leading charity that helps bereaved British Forces children smile again.

Steve, 28, now a restaurant manager, was touring with the Army when Lee Scott, the inspiration behind the charity and father-of-two, was killed in Afghanistan after his vehicle hit an IED.

Haldon Forest – Obstacle Run Series

The GoHARD Obstacle Run Series is a 3km and 6km run incorporating various obstacles, including a camouflage net crawl, a Bulgarian bag carry, log lunge, farmers walk, balance beam and ‘over and under’ hurdles. Failure to cross the balance beam will see competitors tasting dirt as they are then made to execute 5 solid burpees. The ‘over and under’ hurdles include a series of solid 6ft walls, intermixed with low beams requiring good upper body strength and agility. Exeter ladies prepare double blow for cancer at Race for Life 10k

Hundreds of ladies are preparing to give cancer ‘double trouble’ at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life by taking part in the 10k event at Westpoint Exeter this month.

Race for Life 10k will take place on Sunday, 26 July and over 600 determined ladies have already signed up to show the disease that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink.

Event organisers are calling on mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and workmates who want to take on the challenge to sign up as soon as possible.

Age UK Exeter 10k Race 2015

This is the only 10k Race in Exeter with a City Centre start and our 2015 route will take runners up the High Street, down Paris Street, Western Way and on to the Exeter Quayside.

From here it's a beautiful and flat stretch along rivers and canals finishing at the Piazza Terracina. This race will suit regular runners and beginners due to the relatively flat terrain. Download the route map here .

Rock Solid Race returns to its roots

This March sees Rock Solid Race returning to Escot Park for the third time – bringing with it more obstacles, more races and more days to do it in (the event will be running on both days this year).

Thirty years after leaving school, three old school friends who attended St Wilfrid’s School (class of 1984) in Exeter are reuniting to take part in the famous Scumrun charity rally.

Starting from Brands Hatch on 8 May, Terry Gale, Richard Harris and Paul Stevenson will be covering 3,000 miles in four days in their £500 2.5L Mercedes that already has 205,000 miles on the clock. The excitement of winter jump racing will reach a crescendo on Haldon Hill next Tuesday when the BetVictor Haldon Cup, Devon’s richest race, comes under starters orders at 2.50pm.

Exeter’s mid November meeting is when students descend on Haldon Hill to enjoy a free day at the races.

Anyone who is studying, whether its for a degree, or a British Horse Society exam is welcome to attend for free, as long as they possess a valid student card.

A free behind the scenes tour precedes the six races, and Luke Harvey will be offering his tips from the winners’ enclosure too.

Students are also eligible for a 50 per cent discount off Grandstand and Paddock tickets throughout the season.
