City of Exeter Regatta

The City of Exeter Regatta is believed to be Exeter’s oldest sporting event which which attracts hundreds of competitors of all ages each year.

Over 100 sprint races take place over a 400 metre course along the River Exe. This provides close, exciting racing all day with eights, coxed fours, pairs, quads and single and double sculls.

The regatta is a great day out for the family in a superb location. Make the most of it by bringing a picnic or treat yourself in one of the local cafes, restaurants or bars.

Charity run returns to City Centre

After three years of running a course along the city's canal path, the Michelmores annual charity run is returning to the city centre on Tuesday 11 June 2013, and runners of all abilities and experience are now invited to enter.

The new route sees the celebrated 5km event start once again on Cathedral Green before passing the 1km mark in Princesshay and then taking the runners past the Guildhall Shopping Centre, back to the Northernhay memorial statue and on to Rougemont Gardens for a finish at Exeter Castle.

Pub uses twitter to report on dramatic events

These dramatic images tweeted by Exeter's Prospect Inn show the River Exe close to bursting its banks.

Businesses and residents in the area were put on flood alert last night as torrential rain fell on already swollen waterways and saturated ground.

The pub used Twitter to keep people up to date with events during last night and into this morning.

Shortly after midnight, a message read "Have just had a call from Floodline to say flooding on Exeter Quay is imminent!!!"

And at 5.30am they tweeted "It is still rising...it has now reached the cobbled road, so...

University team members head for the coast

As if spending all day on their feet working as part of Exeter University’s campus services team wasn’t enough, Wayne Hill and Mark Fabris are tackling a sponsored walk from Exeter Quay to Exmouth on Saturday 10th November to raise funds for Hospiscare.

Wayne, a committed supporter of the charity, which provides end-of-life care for local patients and their families, says he is doing the walk because he cares passionately about the service they provide.
