MP urges Devon businesses to back vital mentoring programme

A Devon MP is appealing to local businesses to support the next phase of a project helping young people who are out of work to kick-start their future.

The Business Powering Employment Programme (BEEP) gives 16-24 year olds in Devon the confidence and skills to secure jobs and training opportunities.

BEEP helps young people learn through performance coaching techniques and then on-going support from a mentor. Over 95 per cent of those who have been on the programme have gone on to secure work and training opportunities.

Fast Track to Growth Programme launched for Devon firms

Companies across Devon are being offered the chance to take part in the county’s first Fast Track to Growth Programme to help them develop and implement plans for growth in 2016 – for free.

They will receive on-going advice from a range of specialists, and take part in workshops to develop their growth plans ready to then implement. All shortlisted applicants will also have the chance to pitch to a panel of judges, with one company securing a year’s worth of free financial strategy, marketing and PR support, worth £15,000.

Exeter RWC Fanzone weekend programme

Soak up the atmosphere of the Rugby World Cup tournament at the Exeter Fanzone, which is open again this weekend (10 and 11 October).

As well as the live match screenings - including Italy v Romania from Sandy Park on Sunday - there will plenty more going on to entertain the whole family.

South Devon Highway work warning

Galliford Try will be carrying out a three-week phase of works on the A380 north of the Penn Inn Roundabout commencing Wednesday 2nd September. These works will require a series of temporary lane closures and overnight road closures.

The planning has included discussions with South West Highways, who are managing the Teign Viaduct works and maintenance works between Ware Barton and Telegraph Hill. Works have been coordinated where possible, to minimise disruption to road users.

Exeter Phoenix wins Arts Council funding

Exeter Phoenix is to receive £320,745 from the Arts Council’s Capital funding programme to revamp the building’s facilities and develop their digital resources to enhance audience experiences.

Award winning local cookery school and school catering company, Fun Kitchen and Fresha, today announced the launch of a new joint healthy eating venture for schoolchildren in and around Exeter.
