Police advice ahead of the R1 Big Weekend

Revellers heading for Radio 1’s Big Weekend at Powderham Castle over this Bank Holiday are being urged to make their personal safety number one.

Around 50,000 music fans are expected to visit the Exeter venue on Saturday and Sunday to see some of today’s biggest chart acts perform live.

Planning for the event has been ongoing for several months with officers from the Op Candle command team working alongside event organisers, Teignbridge District Council, Exeter City Council, Devon County Council, British Transport Police and other emergency services to support the event....

Weather warning for R1 Big Weekend

A yellow warning for rain has been issued in Devon for tomorrow.

Revelers planning to go along to the Radio 1 Big Weekend at Powderham Castle are being urged to pack their waterproofs and be prepared.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Although some places will remain dry during Saturday, scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop through the afternoon and continue into the evening in places, so be aware of the potential for localised surface water flooding, whilst lightning and hail will also be additional hazards for travel and outdoor activities.”...

BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills this morning announced the line-up for BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend Exeter 2016, revealing that acts including Mumford and Sons, The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas and Jess Glynne will perform at Europe’s biggest free ticketed event at Powderham Castle on 28th and 29th May.

Plans for Radio 1’s Academy revealed

BBC Radio 1 and BBC Learning have announced plans for BBC Radio 1’s Academy - a month of free outreach activity across Exeter and Teignbridge in the run up to BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend that aims to inspire local 16-19 year-olds to take the next step in creative careers.

Now in its fifth year, Radio 1’s Academy will include a series of special events, local engagement and face-to-face activity in the area, which begins in Teignbridge in April and culminates in Exeter in May with a week of radio shows, gigs, practical workshops and Q&As.

Toby Buckland's Garden Festival preview in Exeter City Centre

Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival, which takes place on 29 & 30 April at Powderham Castle is aiming to create a little green oasis with trees and colourful Spring flowers in the centre of Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter in this Visit England ‘Year of the English Garden’.

Toby will be offering gardening advice and running a plant-problem surgery from his pop-up potting shed in the central square in an urban jungle of fantastic trees and plants created by Matford boys, Sam and Lee of Urban and Rural Plants.

Children can meet the famous chocolatier with the Pocketwatch team who have an affection for perfection in confection! Themed sessions take place at specified times.

Sessions run for approximately 45 to 60 minutes and are aimed for children between 5 -11yrs (and adults) of all ages.

Outdoor themed sessions may be dependent on the weather and PTC/Powderham reserve the right to make changes, substitutions and cancellations to the published schedule at any time.
