Stand by for military parade through Exeter city centre

Pomp and ceremony comes to Exeter on Saturday, as HMS Defender exercises its Freedom of the City by marching through the city centre.

The parade, which includes His Majesty’s Band of the Royal Marines, veterans and cadets, takes place at 12 noon on Saturday (11 February).

A VIP reception for guests will also take place in the Historic Guildhall.

HMS Defender is Exeter’s affiliated ship. Launched in 2009, it is a state-of-the-art destroyer, and was given the Freedom of the City of Exeter in 2014.

City congratulates Grecians

Thousands of people have lined the centre of Exeter to congratulate the city’s football club on their promotion winning season.

The team finished as League Two runners-up to ensure promotion to League One – the third tier of English football – for the first time since 2012.

On Monday evening [9 May], an open top bus parade was greeted with a sea of red and white as the players and staff slowly made their way from their ground, St James Park, to the historic Guildhall on the High Street.

City centre parade planned to celebrate Exeter City’s incredible season

An open top bus parade and Civic Reception will be held next week to celebrate Exeter City’s promotion to League One.

The parade will begin in Exeter High Street from 6pm on Monday 9 May.

There could be a double celebration if the Grecians win their last home game on Saturday and are crowned League Two champions.

But whatever the result on Saturday, Exeter have already clinched promotion and will be celebrating in front of thousands of fans in the city centre on Monday.

Royal Marines Cadet attends prestigious Beat the Retreat ceremony

First Sea Lord Cadet Corporal William Darnbrough, a year 9 pupil at St Peters CofE School in Exeter attended his 1st official engagement this week, travelling to London to take part in the prestigious and historic biennial Beat the Retreat ceremony at Horseguards, followed by a reception at Admiralty House.

William and his fellow ten First Sea Lord Cadets hold the position for one year, their next engagement is at Whitehall on June 13th.

THOUSANDS of people will show their support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) communities in the region by attending the 10th Exeter Pride event on Saturday, May 12.

Exeter Pride is one of the South West's biggest celebrations of the LGBTQ+ communities, and one of the biggest free Pride events in the country. It promises to be an explosion of colour, positivity and pride - and everyone is invited to come out and celebrate.

On Saturday 4th March 2017 people will come from all over the UK to take part in a Civic Reception and parade in Exeter, to remember two significant anniversaries in the country’s naval history.

2017 is the 75th anniversary of the sinking of the WW2 ship HMS Exeter and the 35th anniversary of the Falklands War. This is where the Type 42 destroyer, the other HMS Exeter, saw active duty.

Five Nations Parade to make its way through Exeter

The spectacular Exeter Rugby Five Nations Parade will make its way through Exeter city centre tomorrow (Saturday 10 October).

The Parade will assemble on Cathedral Green, before leaving at 1.15pm to process along the High Street to the Fanzone in Northernhay Gardens.

A choreographed finale moment will take place in the Fanzone before the start of the Samoa v Scotland match at 2.30pm.

The parade is themed on the cultural traditions of the five nations visiting Exeter for the Rugby World Cup: Italy, Tonga, Namibia, Georgia and Romania.

Exeter Chiefs LV= Cup parade details

Exeter Chiefs can today confirm the official plans for today’s Open Top bus journey for the squad following their recent LV= Cup triumph over Northampton Saints.

At the kind request of the Lord Mayor Cllr Rachel Lyons and Exeter City Council, the Chiefs will parade the LV= Cup through the city before then taking part in a civic reception at the Guildhall.
