Stunning sculptures at Overbeck’s send shivers down the spine

The first ever sculpture exhibition held at Overbeck’s, the exotic hidden garden overlooking Salcombe estuary and the sea, is proving to be a great success with visitors this summer.

Each of the ten sculptures chosen for the exhibition, entitled ‘An Uncommon Quest’, is as unique and spectacular as Overbeck’s sub-tropical garden. Inspired by the beautiful natural forms all around, they reflect the spirit of Overbeck’s as a place of curiosity, discovery and creativity.

Overbeck’s first Artist in Residence

Overbeck’s, the exotic garden perched high on the cliffs above Salcombe, has its first ever Artist in Residence – local illustrator Charlotte Atkinson.

Charlotte has set up her studio in a small outdoor building within the sheltered Banana Garden, home to some of Overbeck’s most tender tropic plants. She will be documenting a full year in the garden, from this summer to next, capturing and preserving the plants, flowers and vistas as they change through the seasons. These works will be exhibited at Overbeck’s for all to see.

An ‘Uncommon Quest’ at Overbeck’s

Staff and volunteers at Overbeck’s near Salcombe are to present a very special open evening on Friday 7 June to celebrate their first ever garden sculpture exhibition.

The sculptures chosen for the exhibition are as unique and spectacular as Overbeck’s sub-tropical garden which is perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea in one of Devon’s most exotic locations. The beautiful natural forms all around are the inspiration for the artworks, be they created in resin, ceramics or forged fabricated steel.

Overbeck’s is celebrating its 75th Anniversary

On the weekend of 29 and 30 June, Overbeck’s will be celebrating its 75th birthday.

Thanks to its last resident, eccentric inventor Otto Overbeck, the house and garden was bequeathed to National Trust in 1938 and the same year the gates were opened to the public for the first time for just sixpence (6d). The Trust have been telling the story of Overbeck’s to visitors ever since.

Come and join us on this special weekend and help us celebrate. Overbeck’s staff will be offering a special high tea, with the addition of birthday cake, served on the lawn all day.
