Closure of Lower Otter footpaths extended

The closure of the Lower Otter footpaths between Otterton and Budleigh Salterton will be extended for at least the next eight weeks to enable the restoration of the popular riverside path.

Although Devon County Council has put a formal six-month closure in place, every effort will be made to open the route earlier.

The Environment Agency is carrying out repairs to its collapsed culvert and the damaged bank and path, and is liaising closely with the County Council and with the landowners Clinton Devon Estates.

Residents and staff welcomed popular presenter, Judi Spiers and her much-loved sidekick Gus Honeybun, to The Old Vicarage Residential Care Home in the picturesque village of Otterton. The local celebrity duo are on a mission to raise awareness and much needed funds as part of Hospiscare’s annual ‘coffee morning’ fundraiser. The campaign runs throughout September and is supported by Mercedes Benz SW who provide a Hospiscare branded car for Judi’s travels around the county.

East Devon care home celebrates 30 year anniversary with garden fete

The Old Vicarage Residential Care Home set in the picturesque village of Otterton, attracted over 200 people at its popular annual summer garden fête which raised £2400.

Every year half the monies from this fundraiser event are donated to Otterton Primary School, with the remaining monies to two charities chosen by the home’s residents.

This year was an extra special occasion as the 24-bed home is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Woman seriously injured in Devon collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a female pedestrian carrying a child was seriously injured following a collision with a car in Newton Poppleford, near Sidmouth.

A 61-year-old woman, from Otterton, was walking along School Lane, carrying a three-year-old girl, when she was involved in a collision with a silver Vauxhall Zafira. The collision happened at around 8.55am on Tuesday 7 June, outside Newton Poppleford primary school.

A community bus will help residents from the two towns and the surrounding villages get to the Health and Wellbeing Centre soon to be created from what is currently Budleigh Salterton Community Hospital. It will also help people from Budleigh Salterton and surrounding villages travel to Exmouth Hospital.

Wild beavers to stay in East Devon

England’s only breeding population of wild beavers look to have a brighter future after an announcement made today. Devon Wildlife Trust is hailing the decision by Natural England to grant the charity a five year licence to monitor the beavers as a key moment in the history of modern conservation. The charity is welcoming the positive news after spending months of hard work trying to secure a long term future for the animals. Visit Otterton Mill to watch milling demonstrations. Water power is used to produce Otterton's signature stoneground wholemeal flour, continuing in a 1,000-year old tradition.
