TEDxExeter 2019 talks launch online

Organisers of TEDxExeter, the South West's leading ideas festival, have announced that talks from its 2019 event have been launched for online viewing at www.tedxexeter.com

The eighth TEDxExeter Ideas Festival took place on Friday April 5th 2019 at the Northcott Theatre. The talks were livestreamed to audiences across the city, as well as by communities in all corners of the world including Australia, New Zealand, India, Russia, Japan, Nigeria, Somalia, the USA, Mexico and Venezuela.

Thank you so much to our amazing Big Beacon Clean Team - you did an amazing job! Our lovely Beacon Community Centre in Beacon Lane, Exeter, is now safer, brighter and cleaner.

The steps and paths are jet washed, windows cleaned, the kitchen cupboards and main storeroom have had a good clear out, the giant hedge lowered and the weeds have gone!

This was our second BIg Beacon Clean - we're aiming to hold one every three months, to keep the place in good condition to welcome the hundreds of people who visit every week.

Homeless charity needs your vote

A CHARITY, which works to prevent young people becoming homeless, is urging the public to help it secure a funding grant. Community Housing Aid is in the running for a grant for its project, Nightstop Devon, which provides emergency accommodation for young people. Members of the public are being urged to go online and vote for Nightstop Devon, which is taking part in a campaign to receive a grant of up to £25,000 from the Masonic Charitable Foundation Community Award. Some bright and techy year 6 Exeter pupils looked very sharp as they joined the national debate about internet safety on breakfast TV.

The youngsters from Tedburn st Mary primary school taught the grown-ups a thing or two about staying safe online when they appeared on Good Morning Britain to highlight a report on our children’s digital life.

Free online skills in Exeter for people with sight loss

A free online basic skills session is being held in Exeter on 21 October 2016 to help blind and partially sighted people get online and take their first steps in using technology.

Sight loss charity RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) has been holding workshops across the UK to support people living with sensory loss in getting online as part of its ambitious Online Today project.

Adults spend one day a week online

A new survey has revealed that adult mobile phone users in the UK currently spend an average of one day per week (25 hours) online.

Ofcom has found that of those, 42 per cent say they go online or check apps more than 10 times a day, while around one in 10 (11%) access the internet more than 50 times daily.

Most internet users (59%) even consider themselves 'hooked' on their connected device - while a third (34%) admit they find it difficult to disconnect.

Online workshops for people with sight loss

A sight loss charity in Exeter is holding sessions on how to use the internet in the upcoming weeks.

The Royal National Institute of Bling People (RNIB) is a charity set up to support those with sight loss, and with their online today project.

76 percent of adults now access the internet everyday as found in 2014 compared to 38 percent in 2012.

The project will provide 125,000 people with the knowledge of how to get online and use the necessary technology to enable them to make the most of the internet.

Public urged to report terrorist and extremist material online

Police forces nationwide are appealing for internet users to report harmful extremist and terrorist material when they see it online.

All week, police and partners have been using their social media channels to urge people to report material they suspect is extremist or terrorist by clicking on a distinctive red "STOP" button that can be found on their websites. STOP stands for Stop Terrorists' and extremists' Online Presence.
