Record crowds at Dartmoor Folk Festival PICS

Record crowds enjoyed three days of music, song, dance and crafts at the 37th Dartmoor Folk Festival held from August 8 to 10.

Local and national artists entertained audiences at the event held at South Zeal, near Okehampton.

The festival included concerts, dances, a Dartmoor Fayre, a ceilidh, folk service, craft displays, music hall, pub sessions, a ramble on Dartmoor and music, song and dance workshops.

The packed programme of events also included a dedicated children’s festival.

Festival brings folk music to new generation

Local folk heroes Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman are among the highlights of this year’s annual celebration of traditional music in the Dartmoor town of Okehampton, the Baring-Gould Folk Weekend.

The husband-and-wife duo, who live within the Dartmoor National Park in West Devon, will be performing a selection of favourites plus some brand new songs from their forthcoming album when they headline the festival’s Saturday afternoon concert at Fairplace Church.

The Dirty Youth w/ I Divide

Welsh rock band, The Dirty Youth are bringing their tour 'Gold Dust' to Exeter with local band I Divide as support.

The Dirty Youth have toured with popular Finnish band The Rasmus along with Reckless Love and KoRn.

They will play the Cavern on October 12th. Tickets will be avaliable from the Cavern or online at We Got Tickets. They cost £8.80 including booking fee. This is a 16+ event.

Disabled musicians showcase their talents

On Wednesday 20 August, shoppers in Princesshay will have the opportunity to hear and appreciate the talents of members of CEDA, an Exeter-based charity for disabled people.

CEDA find imaginative and creative ways to provide support services to disabled people of all ages, with a focus on independence and empowerment.

The Welsh pop rock band, Kids in Glass houses have announced they are to split and have also released details of a farewell tour. This tour will be brought to the Exeter Phoenix on Monday 6th October.

They have previously released four albums and their latest release was Peace. They will be playing classics from all albums. They have played Exeter before and hopefully Exeter will give them a good send off.

Devon Wine & Music Festival tickets selling fast

Tickets are selling fast for the first ever Devon Wine and Music Festival with folk singer Steve Knightley headlining the September event.

Already 150 out of 500 tickets have been sold for the event where music lovers can enjoy local bands, wine lovers can tickle their tastebuds with wines from six vineyards and local food suppliers will keep foodies happy. Pebblebed is hosting the event at their vineyard in Clyst St George, near Exeter, on September 13/14.
