Lord Mayor thanks Exeter Philharmonic Choir for its fundraising

Members of Exeter Philharmonic Choir, which has recently raised money for the Lord Mayor's charity SSAFA Devon, attended a special reception and cheque presentation at the city’s Guildhall last week.

The event was to thank all the organisations who have contributed to a grand total of over £23,000 for SSAFA Devon, which provides practical and emotional support for serving personnel, veterans and military families. A collection held at Exeter Philharmonic Choir’s concert in March raised £726.66 for the charity.

Royal Marines Cadet attends prestigious Beat the Retreat ceremony

First Sea Lord Cadet Corporal William Darnbrough, a year 9 pupil at St Peters CofE School in Exeter attended his 1st official engagement this week, travelling to London to take part in the prestigious and historic biennial Beat the Retreat ceremony at Horseguards, followed by a reception at Admiralty House.

William and his fellow ten First Sea Lord Cadets hold the position for one year, their next engagement is at Whitehall on June 13th.

Military charity to honour Devon’s soldiers with commemorative concert in Exeter

As part of the national 100th anniversary commemorating the end of WW1, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity are staging a special concert at Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 16th June, 2018.

The event will be compered by David Fitzgerald from BBC Radio Devon.

Hosted by the charity’s Devon County Committee, the evening promises to be an outstanding musical contribution to remember the bravery of those from the 2nd Devonshire Regiment who were tragically killed in action during the notorious ‘Battle of Bois de Buttes. Stagecoach SW supports Armed Forces

Stagecoach South West has announced its commitment to the UK Armed Forces by signing a corporate covenant to support the country’s military community.

The company, which operates bus services across Devon and into Cornwall and Somerset is marking the event and in recognition of National Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June, by offering free travel to military personnel on this special day.

East Devon District Council was proud to be one of 450 councils - when it raised the British Armed Forces Flag at Knowle in Sidmouth today (22 June) - taking part in celebrations to support the 7th annual Armed Forces Day, which is being held on Saturday 27 June.

This nationwide morale boosting campaign publically recognises the braveness and hard work undertaken by serving troops, reservists, veterans, cadets and Service families. The flag will continue to remain flying in the week leading up to Armed Forces Day.

Devon Grammy and Brit Award singer Joss Stone has teamed up with guitar legend Jeff Beck to record this year’s official Poppy Appeal single.

The single is a soulful cover of 'No Man’s Land (Green Fields of France)', written in 1976 by Scottish-born folk singer-songwriter Eric Bogle. Reflecting on the grave of a young man (Willie McBride) who died during the First World War, its chorus refers to two famous pieces of military music, 'The Last Post' and 'The Flowers of the Forest'.

Bicton College Military Academy Launches National Initiative

Staff and students from Bicton’s Military and Public Services Academy (MaPS) have this week introduced their education programme to dignitaries from across the country.
