The Prince of Wales has met representatives from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS), and Devon and Cornwall Police. Overnight resurfacing planned on major route into Exeter

Overnight closures will be in place on a major route into Exeter starting later this month (March).

Essential resurfacing will get underway on the A3015 Honiton Road/Moor Lane roundabout on the night of Monday 16 March and will continue with night-time working until Friday 17 April.

Closures will be carried out on weekday evenings from 7pm-6am. In order to minimise disruption, part of the roundabout will remain open to traffic at all times during the overnight work.

Work to start on Moor Lane roundabout upgrade

The first phase of a scheme to upgrade Moor Lane roundabout in Exeter will start next week (Monday 13 January).

The approach to the roundabout, from the direction of Sowton Industrial Estate, is being widened to create extra capacity with the addition of a fourth lane.

In order to provide the required space, earthwork and vegetation clearance on the embankment next to the road will need to be carried out, as well as the diversion of utility services.

A building at the heart of Devon and Cornwall police headquarters is being named in honour of much loved Falmouth PC Andy Hocking. Thousands of local people paraded through the town as a mark of respect when Andy died suddenly in March 2015. He was just 52. His impact on the local community was immense, and he epitomised everything that is good about neighbourhood policing. Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner candidate is calling for an immediate review of Tony Hogg’s decision on his Middlemoor move. Tony Hogg decided just a few weeks ago to move his office less than one mile to what will be newly refurbished premises inside the Police HQ at Middlemoor. Police Commissioner's office to move to Middlemoor

Tony Hogg has today confirmed that the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) will move from its leased premises on the Pynes Hill business park, Exeter, to police headquarters at Middlemoor.

To do this, extensive renovations must take place on the most suitable office and, following a successful tendering process in which a number of local contractors submitted bids, one of these has been successful.

Dozens of firefighters tackle pub blaze

Dozens of firefighters are tackling a large thatch blaze at the Ring of Bells pub in North Bovey, Dartmoor.

Fire appliances from across Devon and Somerset were mobilised to reports of the thatch roof alight, shortly after 11.30am today (Wednesday 13 January).

Crews from, Chagford, Bovey Tracey, North Tawton, Newton Abbot, Okehampton, Ashburton, Torquay, Exeter Danes Castle, Totnes and the High Volume Pump from Taunton (crewed by Wellington) are in attendance.

Biker Down course proves popular

A new initiative called Biker Down, South West held a successful pilot workshop on Saturday 6 June at The Devon Travel Academy at West Point Exeter. The course is a free first aid course created by bikers for bikers designed specifically for treating injured riders.

Storms cause flooding and travel disruption

Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flooding and travel disruption across Exeter and East Devon this morning.

In Honiton a lightning strike caused a fire at a property in Stout. Two fire engines from Honiton and one from Sidmouth attended just before 8am.

Two hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire was a lightning strike on the property.

In Dawlish fire control received around six calls to reports of flooding inside properties due to heavy rainfall.
