Exeter Daily shortlisted for national award

The Exeter Daily has been shortlisted for a major national award, thanks to its army of contributors.

The website has been nominated in the Best Use of Citizen Journalism category at the UK Online Media Awards.

The others on the shortlist are The Times, the Guardian and the BBC.

This is the second time the Daily has been in the running for a major award, having lost out to the Guardian in the national Newspaper Awards in 2012.

Then, one of the judges said: "The Daily is a brave, innovative and ambitious attempt to build a new, local digital news model...

Exeter PR agency scoops top award

Devon-based PR and marketing firm Astley Media has scooped a top accolade at the Chartered Institute of Public Relations PRide Awards in Bristol.

The agency, based at Northernhay Place in Exeter, won Gold for Best External Publication for its work alongside client Stagecoach South West.

The publication combines a timetable, map, social media links and discount vouchers to tourist attractions along the route of the rebranded Hop 12, which runs from Newton Abbot, through Torbay, to Brixham.

Targeting tourists, a partnership was forged with the English Riviera Tourism...

Sponsorship deal and birthday celebration for The Exeter Daily

Today marks two special events for The Exeter Daily.

For not only are we celebrating our first birthday, we are also announcing a sponsorship deal with the Exeter Phoenix.

From now on the venue's main performance area will be known as The Exeter Daily auditorium and all tickets will also display our logo.

The sponsorship deal is the first of its kind for the Phoenix.

Venue director Patrick Cunningham said: "It’s a really exciting partnership. The Exeter Daily is a great platform for local news and we’re delighted that they want to work with Exeter Phoenix....

So I was at the Devon County Show today and I struck up a conversation with one of the traders. It turned out we both hailed from the same place. He eventually asked me what I did for a living and when I said media and marketing he responded with: “Okay, give me your top three marketing tips”, which I did. The Exeter Daily shortlisted for national newspaper award

The Exeter Daily has been shortlisted for a national newspaper award.

We are in the running for the coveted title of Digital News Service of the Year along with, among others, thesundaytimes.co.uk, metro.co.uk and guardian.co.uk.

The winner will be announced at a high profile event at the Hilton in London's Park Lane.

Exeter Daily editor Natalie Vizard said the success of the site was down to the way it had been embraced by the local community.

The Exeter Daily under BBC spotlight

The Exeter Daily has featured on a BBC Spotlight report about the future of news.

The regional programme highlighted the plight of several local newspapers that had seen sales tumble in the past 12 months.

Among them are Exeter's Express & Echo which has seen declines of almost 20 per cent. The Western Morning News fell by 7.6 per cent and the Plymouth Herald by 8.9 per cent.

The Daily UK set to launch first franchise in Plymouth

The team behind The Exeter Daily are poised to launch their first franchise. After just five months of trading in Exeter, The Daily UK, is to expand into Plymouth next month. Meanwhile, talks are at an advanced stage in a number of other areas across the UK.

The Daily model was created by Marc Astley, who stood down as editor of the Express & Echo in Exeter shortly after it turned from a daily to weekly. And he said his user-generated model had captured the imaginations of a new generation of news consumer.

TED gains over 15,000 unique users in just two months

In just two months since it was launched on 8th October, The Exeter Daily has clocked up almost 90,000 hits.

The Exeter Daily team have been bowled over by the positive response from both users and advertisers, with over 15,000 people having visited the site since its launch.

Close to 700 individuals, businesses and groups have registered as users of the site.

Top stories over the past two months include articles on flooding, a mum who went on the run with her son to prevent him having cancer treatment and a fatal motorway accident.

Exeter Chamber of Commerce October Networking Lunch

Guest speaker and former Express & Echo editor Marc Astley spoke to us about his latest venture - a daily online news and information service- The Exeter Daily.

The Exeter Daily launched on October 8 and will carry regular news updates as well as what's on, sport and business information.

Marc explained how businesses, in particular, are able to use the site for free as part of their marketing strategy.

As always, this networking event attracted a huge crowd and was held at the Mercure Southgate Hotel in central Exeter.
