Exeter ladies prepare double blow for cancer at Race for Life 10k

Hundreds of ladies are preparing to give cancer ‘double trouble’ at Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life by taking part in the 10k event at Westpoint Exeter this month.

Race for Life 10k will take place on Sunday, 26 July and over 600 determined ladies have already signed up to show the disease that hell hath no fury like a woman in pink.

Event organisers are calling on mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and workmates who want to take on the challenge to sign up as soon as possible.

Ladies’ Night at Exeter Racecourse on Tuesday, May 5 is when the glitz and glamour of racing descend on Haldon Hill. Young and old, male and female can enjoy a fantastic night out, with children aged 17 and under racing free, and fabulous prizes for the best ladies and gentlemen. On Thursday, 18th September 2014 (from 17.30 – 20.00), Ladies Do ... will be holding a prestigious ‘Ladies Do Networking’ event, at Bradburys Kitchens showroom on Marsh Barton and will be combining this with a macaroon making (and eating!) demonstration by Sylvain Peltier of Little French Cakes. Over the last two months, the Ladies Summer Hockey League has been played by 10 teams in two pools. The winners and runners commenced to the Semi-Finals last week. Exe beat White Eagles and Exeter cum Vale Hornets won against Isca, taking the game to penalty flicks.

The final last night Tuesday 15th July was a hard fought game with Exe scoring in the first half through a penalty flick from Bridget Culver. After half time the teams were still close but Exe edged away with goals from Laura Allen and Payno. Exe held on to win 3-0 and collected the shield from Club Chairman Jane Bailey...

Exeter City celebrate role of women and girls in football

Exeter City FC will be celebrating the role of women and girls in football at its specially designated One Game One Community (OGOC) home game against Burton Albion (Saturday 26 October).

Each season the Supporters’ Trust-backed Exeter City OGOC group organise a match with an equality and diversity theme. Previous events have put the spotlight on issues including racism, homophobia and disability. This year the focus is on promoting female participation in football.

The choice has been applauded by City’s new OGOC Ambassador, first team goalkeeper Artur Krysiak.

Last week saw the launch of Back to Hockey by Exe Hockey Club – a new nationwide programme set to attract over 15,000 women back to one of the UK’s most popular Olympic sports.

St James’ Park will be hosting the Exeter City Ladies’ FA Women’s Cup first round proper tie against Brislington on Sunday 9th December with kick-off set for 1pm.

This fixture offers the Grecian girls the chance to progress to the second round for the first time in their history.

They reached the first round last season, only to be defeated away at Swindon. But they have been drawn at home to Somerset County Division One side Brislington – and rather than playing at their usual home in Topsham, the Exeter Ladies have the chance to showcase the women’s game at St James’ Park...
