Okay for Croquet at A la Ronde

Visit A la Ronde for an informal afternoon learning all about the strategic game of croquet.

Members of the Sidmouth Croquet Club will be on hand to encourage and develop new skills with anyone who is keen to learn, as well as help improve the technique of existing players. Both newcomers and experienced players are welcome.

Tuition will be available on 13 May, 10 June, 8 July, 13 August and 9 September, from noon to 4pm.

Access to the grounds and the croquet tuition is free. All equipment is provided with no pre-booking required, simply turn up and have a go....

A new exhibition will be on display from Thursday 8 to Wednesday 21 May featuring the work of a well-known local Exmouth artist at A la Ronde, the National Trust property near Exmouth.

‘Times and Seasons’ by John Onley is a series of paintings based on landscape and townscape studies at home and abroad worked in pastel, acrylics and mixed medias. He tries to simplify natural forms, sometimes to the point of abstraction, to emphasise the patterns and shapes of the landscape, and to achieve vibrant colour combinations. Local artist Heatherbell Barlow will be holding an exhibition of her work at A la Ronde this month.

Heatherbell is co-founder of the Exe Valley Artists and a member of Devon Artist Network and has a passion for colour. This is reflected in her landscape paintings of special places in the West Country. Her Sketchbook Project on Scilly recently toured America and Canada.

The exhibition can be seen, free of charge, in the stable and award winning tearooms at A la Ronde near Exmouth from 24 April to 7 May, 10.30am - 5.00pm.

A la Ronde calls for volunteers

Have you thought about volunteering but haven't made that first step?

A la Ronde is a unique house with a fabulous story to tell and are seeking volunteers to join their friendly team.

They are looking for room guides, people to help in the shop and visitor reception, plus fundraisers to sell raffle tickets which fund conservation at the property. They are keen to empower our volunteers and give them the opportunity to make the best of their skills for the benefit of the property.

Embroidered collage exhibition

Lympstone textile artist Jenny Moon makes a welcome return to A la Ronde with her exhibition of exquisite and colourful collages. The exhibition can be seen free of charge, in the stable and award winning tearooms from 10 to 23 April, 10.30am - 5pm. The pictures of fabric and stitching depict sea and boats, the countryside and clusters of cottages.

Easter holiday fun at A la Ronde

The fun begins at A la Ronde this Easter with a family-friendly trail starting on Saturday 5 April. The trail runs in the grounds daily until Sunday 21 April and costs £1.50. Sponsored by Cadburys, there is a free chocolate egg for every participant.

Artist Mick Abbott is returning to A la Ronde after his hugely popular 2013 series of paintings based around the ceramics collection at the house. This year he will be taking the visitor on a very different journey to discover the boat building heritage of the local area.

The National Trust property at Summer Lane, Exmouth is well known for its extraordinary collection of arts and crafts works by Jane and Mary Parminter, the founder cousins of this remarkable sixteen-sided house. Volunteers at A la Ronde, the National Trust property near Exmouth, are busy sorting books of all shapes, sizes, titles and themes ready for the forthcoming season.

The second-hand book sale area in the house is in its fifth year and is hugely popular. We raised over £9,000 last year. So we are asking our supporters to sort out their book shelves and donate any surplus books. The funds raised go towards conservation of the unique and quirky collection in the house.
