Unique Exeter 'showgame' destined for Sydney Opera House

CRITICALLY-acclaimed showgame The Money, which puts a group of strangers in charge of spending a pot of money in front of an audience of ‘Silent Witnesses’, is to be staged in one of the world’s most iconic buildings.

Created by Seth Honnor of Exeter-based Kaleider, The Money is a unique immersive experience – described as part game-part show - where a group of participants buy their way into the game and have one hour to jointly decide how to spend a sum of real cash.

Next month it will be played out at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Antidote Festival, a major...

Kaleider publish book created with over 200 Exeter youngsters

Kaleider, a production studio based in Exeter, has published Ancient Sunlight, Stories From The Oil Age created by six artists and over two hundred young people from schools and library groups in Exeter.

Starting with the question ‘What should we do with the last barrel of oil?’, the artists led workshops about the affordances of oil, what we have and value and how those values might be shifted or sustained in the future. Exploring the subject through screen printing, illustration, poetry, script writing and scientific investigation, the artists collaborated with the young people...

If, whilst you read our plan, you feel you have something to contribute to what Kaleider is trying to achieve, we would love to hear from you.

The Money is Back for One Night Only

Spend the money on whatever you want. Just keep within the law. ‘This deceptively simple piece is definitely on the money. It turns conversation into urgent, playful theatre.’ Lyn Gardner, THE GUARDIAN

The Money returns to Exeter for one night only.

The event, created by Kaleider, launched last November at Exeter’s Guildhall and its unique premise caused quite a stir. The audience, or players, can dictate much of the action meaning the outcome can be completely different each night.

To participate, players either become a Benefactor donating at least £10, or a Silent Witness watching as a group of Benefactors decide how to spend their collective money. Silent Witnesses can buy their way in if they...

Exeter Guildhall is the venue for Kaleider's current production, The Money, and there couldn't be a more appropriate setting.

Last night 13 "benefactors" were seated around a substantial oak table and an equal number of "silent witnesses" sat on the surrounding benches. This is a unique performance and the cast and audience are the same people. There are no roles or script, the comedy and drama are authentic and the tension is palpable.

At 7.00 exactly the participants were allowed into the vast chamber. After about 20 minutes the gothic door was shut, locked and guarded, £...

The Money Come and Play.

There will be money on the table. Not fake money, real money. It’s up to the group what to spend it on. You have two hours to come to a decision.

How to play:

Become a Benefactor by donating as much as you can. Work with other Benefactors to decide what to spend the group’s money on. You have two hours to come to a decision. No rules. If you don’t decide unanimously in the allotted time you relinquish your privilege to spend the money and the money rolls over to the next group of Benefactors. If you’re the quiet observing type you can...
