Devon artists receive warm hospitality in Italy

AventHolidays, founded by Woodbury-based Jeremy Jackson, launched the first of their Italian painting breaks in the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage City of Ferrara, Italy. Exeter artist Rebecca de Mendonca, tutored the pastel painting course to a seven-strong group, which included BBC Radio Devon presenter Judi Spiers and Exeter PR consultant Glen King.

Guests enjoyed wine and canapés at a special event held in their honour hosted by Brother and Sister Marco and Melia in the private courtyard of their home.

Art Project aims to raise profile of local artists and funds for charity

Art, charity and travel have been combined in a unique collaborative project launched by Woodbury-based Jeremy Jackson, whose illustrious career as an artist, writer and honorary pastor and former public relations executive spans 30 years. Despite retiring six years ago, flamboyant Jeremy is far from taking it easy and his latest new venture combines two of his greatest passions – paintings and people.

Pope Benedict XVI bids farewell in last public appearance

More than 50,000 people are expected to gather in St Peter's Square later today for Pope Benedict XVI's final general audience the day before he becomes the first pontiff in 600 years to step down since Pope Gregory XII abdicated in 1415.

Papal audiences are normally held inside a Vatican hall in the winter, however there has been such a lot of interest that the event is being held outdoors. 50,000 tickets have been requested, but as many as 200,000 people may attend and people have even been seen running in order to get a prime spot for this unprecedented event.
