Cumberland grange helps hospital radio Exeter celebrate 50 years

In celebration of 50 years, Hospital Radio Exeter recorded their special celebration show from Cumberland Grange Care Home to honour Jo one of Cumberland Granges residents who was one of the very first volunteers to set up and start Hospital Radio Exeter.

Hospital Radio Exeter is the Radio Station for the patients of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) and residents of Care Homes in the Exeter area and is manned completely by volunteers.

Local care home teams up with Hospital Radio Exeter

Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter have teamed up with the RD&E’s very own radio station, Hospital Radio Exeter. Julia and Richard Green who present on a Friday evening 6pm – 8pm have kindly dedicated an hour of their show 7pm – 8pm to Cumberland Grange.

Residents are able to put in their song requests, messages and shout outs for loved ones and enjoy the hour of music and fun. Family members and friends of the residents are also able to request songs and send in messages which has bought a few tears to the eyes whilst listening.

Exeter Chiefs Foundation support Hospital Radio Exeter

Hospital Radio Exeter has benefitted to the tune of just over £9,500 thanks to a grant from the Exeter Chiefs Foundation.

The money will enable the station team to update their playout system and provide an opportunity to develop and expand the service in the future.

Hospital Radio Exeter is run by a group of enthusiastic volunteers and has been broadcasting to patients at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital for more than 40 years.

Hospital Radio Exeter broadcasts to the largest Hospital in Exeter, the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) and are looking for new volunteers aged 18 and over, from all backgrounds.

Hospital Radio Exeter uses professional quality equipment and state of the art technology to provide a 24 hour service, 7 days a week and we are currently looking for new faces to join our friendly team of dedicated and hard working volunteers.

Hospital Radio Exeter wins lottery funding

Hospital Radio Exeter has been awarded £7,690 in funding by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.

The volunteer run radio station which is based at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital in Exeter currently provides more than 40 hours per week of varied programmes including the famous request shows to hospital patients.

Malcolm Mardon from Hospital Radio Exeter said: “This funding will allow us to update our second studio to allow more shows to be recorded and broadcast, and to allow interviews to take place.

St David’s Singers was formed by the then organist of St David’s Church Exeter in the early 1970s, who directed the choir until Autumn 1994 when the baton was passed to Mark Perry.

The choir consists of about 28 singers who enjoy singing challenging music from a wide range of composers, periods and styles. We sing sacred and secular music, normally a cappella, in and around Devon, usually for charities.
