Molly Scott Cato, the region’s most prominent and vocal MEP on Brexit, will be giving a presentation at the Exeter Community Centre in St David’s on Tuesday in which she will argue that the EU referendum result now has no legitimacy and we need a ‘People’s Vote’ on the final deal between the EU and UK.

Molly Scott Cato, who is also Green Party speaker on Brexit, said: “With revelations about criminal behaviour by the Leave campaign...

Despite failing to win a seat, the Green Party is now the third party in Exeter, achieving a higher proportion of the vote than either the Lib Dems or UKIP. The Party’s lead candidate in St David’s and former parliamentary candidate, Diana Moore, came fifth in the ward.

Diana said:“Of course I am disappointed we didn’t win a seat but this was none-the-less a positive result and I am very grateful to the 655 people who voted for me. I am also hugely grateful to the dedicated team of members and supporters who supported the campaign.

"It was a privilege to speak to hundreds...

Exeter Greens have called for a halt to the continued growth of purpose-built luxury student accommodation, saying the speed and scale of the developments poses risks to the mix and diversity of the city centre; the provision of affordable accommodation and to student mental health.

The Party’s call for a curtailment of such new developments follows the latest plans for nearly 600 beds on the bus depot site and a planned 130+ bed block on historic Bartholomew Street. In the central area of the city alone, major developments totalling 2,640 beds are complete, under construction or...

Exeter Greens have accused Exeter City Council of pruning tree staff to the bare minimum and say that a lack of investment is leaving communities in the dark about when and why trees are being cut down.

Exeter Green Party has discovered that 150 trees have been cut down in conservation areas alone in the past year, with countless others lost across the city. Exeter’s tree cover stands at just over 22% and includes some rare, culturally and locally significant trees.

Joe Levy, Green Party Candidate in St Thomas, said: “Trees in Exeter are coming under severe pressure from...

Exeter Green Party is urging councillors to reject outline planning permission for the redevelopment of the bus station site, saying the plans are a bad deal for Exeter.

Councillors are due to decide whether to grant outline planning permission at an extraordinary council meeting on Wednesday (20 January).

Greens are demanding that any deal must include a developer contribution towards a new bus and coach station. It was recently revealed that the current developer, The Crown Estate, has pulled out of funding a new public transport hub for the city. Greens also say that the...

Exeter Green Party says that if new rules adopted by the European Parliament are agreed by the European Commission, sending food waste to the Exeter’s energy from waste plant could become illegal.

The Parliament last week voted to end the incineration of all recyclable and biodegradable waste. http://www.greens-efa.eu/circular-economy-14330.html

Currently, food waste in the city makes up around 35% of ‘black bin’ waste and is incinerated at the £46m Marsh Barton energy from waste plant site.

Greens have long campaigned for food waste to be collected and processed...
