Call for used candles to help relight candle recycling business

If you’ve been lighting up your lockdown with candles, The Recycled Candle Company urgently needs your help!

As lockdown measures ease, owners Richard Hills-Ingyon and Sargon Latchin are asking anyone with a stockpile of used candles to either drop them off at the shop or pop them in the post so they can start production again.

Richard said: “Lockdown meant donations pretty much stopped, and without the wax, we can’t make our recycled candles.

“But we know the wax is out there as we’ve had loads of enquiries from people desperate to give us their old candles.”...

With business booming in its Gandy Street shop, The Recycled Candle Company is putting out a call for even more used candles.

As the UK’s only candle recycling business, The Recycled Candle Company melts down old candles and uses the wax to make new ones, The process means that old candles don’t become part of landfill, in line with current thinking that it is far better to reuse materials wherever possible.

As the race to Christmas picks up pace and sparkly trees and glitter start to appear in Exeter, Gandy Street will be buzzing with music and entertainers in their own seasonal festival: Countdown To Christmas.

From 5.30pm on Thursday November 26, Gandy Street’s independent traders will be holding an extraordinary pre-Christmas celebration shopping night with more than 20 businesses joining in the festivities.

As well as discounts, promotions and offers galore, visitors to the street will be treated to goody bags, mince pies, mulled wine and all manner of samples and goodies...

Choccie Bar will shortly be tending to the Christmas rush from the company’s new shop in Gandy Street, Exeter.

Cuddled into the corner of the cobbled street (made famous by JK Rowling as the blueprint for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter Books) the former Gandy Street Kitchen closed its doors for the last time on Saturday and will re-open very shortly as the newly minted Choccie Bar in time for late night shopping.
