Free flood warnings for EE customers

EE customers registered in flood risk areas in Devon and Cornwall will receive messages from the Environment Agency’s Floodline Warnings Direct service, giving people valuable time to prepare.

The scheme is the first of its kind in England and follows a successful pilot in Staffordshire in March this year.

Since 2010, the Floodline Warnings Direct service has enabled the Environment Agency to automatically register and send warnings to 600,000 home and business landline numbers, but this will be the first time that flood warnings will be issued directly through a mobile...

The government recently extended the deadline for the Repair and Renew Grant scheme. The scheme covers homes and businesses where flood water entered the property, and can be used to install measures such as flood barriers, airbrick covers and non-return valves to help prevent...

A yellow warning of rain remains in place until Friday.

As winter approaches, the Environment Agency is urging people across Devon to be prepared for possible flooding.

Last winter was the wettest for nearly 250 years and around 6,000 properties flooded across the country. Among the worst hit was Somerset, where, in some areas, people were evacuated from their homes and whole communities suffered major flood damage and disruption.

One in six properties in England is at risk of flooding. This figure is only going to increase with climate change. Many people think flooding will never happen to them, but it could. Now is the time...
