The weather may be relatively calm at the moment, but the Met Office have issued another yellow weather warning for rain tomorrow (Thursday) which is set to continue through Friday, into Saturday.

Forecasters say a developing frontal system is expected to bring another period of persistent rain, which will be heavy at times, to parts of the southern England later on Thursday and into Friday. The rain is likely to be accompanied by strong and gusty winds.

There is a risk of localised flooding, exacerbated by fallen leaves blocking drainage courses.

The Exeter-based agency’s Chief Forecaster said: “A developing frontal system is expected to push north, then east across many parts of the UK during Thursday and into Friday.

“Rain is expected to become persistent and heavy at times, particularly over south-facing hills. Many places may well see 20-30 mm during the period, with as much as 50-70 mm over higher ground of Southwest England and Wales.

“With this bout of heavy rain coming after a few wet days, localised flooding is a possibility either from surface water or from some rivers.”

Flood warnings remain in place for the following rivers:

River Axe (Lower) from Axminster to Axmouth, including Musbury, Whitford Bridge, the A3052 at Colyford and the A35 at Yarty Bridge.

River Clyst from Broadclyst to Clyst St Mary, including Broadclyst, Ashclyst, Clyston Mill, Sowton Barton, Newcourt Barton, the A3052 at Clyst Honiton, and the B3181 at Broadclyst.

River Axe (Upper) from Winsham to Axminster, including Chard junction and Weycroft.
