Exeter Chiefs joined defending champions Gloucester in booking their place at Finals Night in this season’s Singha Premiership 7s.

Ricky Pellow’s young charges overcame a heavy defeat in their opening game against the Cherry & Whites to then see off rivals Bath and London Irish.

It means the Devonians will now head for the capital as one of eight sides who will battle it out for glory at the Twickenham Stoop on Friday week.

Up against Gloucester in the night’s opening game, it was always going to be a tough ask for Pellow’s youngsters.

Businesses in Exeter are gearing up to welcome thousands of rugby fans at the weekend for the LV Cup Final at Sandy Park.

With Exeter Chiefs beating Bath 19-22 in yesterday’s hotly contested semi-final, the city is set for a rugby invasion, with over 10,000 supporters of the Chiefs and Northampton Saints expected for Sunday’s cup final clash. The Saints eased past Saracens 26-7 in the competition’s other semi-final.

Devon's Luke Friend is preparing for stardom, despite failing to reach the X Factor final.

The 17-year-old from Teignmouth failed to secure enough votes to go through to last night's sing off but despite that he is still being tipped for the top.

And among those singing his praises have been a number of celebrities.

Great British Bake Off gets highest ever rating episode on BBC Two

The final episode of series three of Great British Bake Off last night had an average of 6.5 million viewers, 25.3% share, with a peak of 7.2 million viewers seeing law student John Whaite crowned as the Bake Off winner.
