The winter habits of Britain’s basking sharks have been revealed for the first time.

Scientists from the University of Exeter have discovered some spend their winters off Portugal and North Africa, some head to the Bay of Biscay and others choose a staycation around the UK and Ireland.

Little was known about basking sharks’ winter behaviour as they spend little time at the surface and are often far from land, so the researchers used cutting-edge satellite tracking to carry out the most detailed ever study of their migrations in the north-east Atlantic.

On Sunday 26 February, the Exeter branch of Families need Fathers are screening a revolutionary documentary about the so-called ‘Men’s Rights Movement’ at The Exeter Phoenix Arts Centre.

A new campaign has been launched to help raise awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE), modern slavery and violent extremism in Devon.

The Be Curious campaign, developed by the Safer Devon Partnership aims to raise awareness of the issues and uses short animations to highlight potential signs of modern slavery, CSE and violent extremism.

The Safer Devon Partnership is a county-wide strategic partnership which brings together a range of stakeholders who all play a key role in enabling the people of Devon to feel and be safe in their homes and communities.

Exeter artist Gregory Mason is through to the semi-final of Sky Arts’ Portrait Artist of the Year (PAOTY), which will see him painting a portrait of award-winning star of stage and screen Imelda Staunton

A new walking and cycling trail in Cranbrook has been officially opened.

The “Cranbrook Discovery Trail: Long Orchard” has been developed by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Cranbrook Town Council and Cranbrook New Community Partners Consortium to encourage residents to explore their local area.

As a designated “Healthy Town” it also provides local adults and children in Cranbrook with an opportunity to stay active.
