New Universal Credit being rolled out in the Honiton area

The new Universal Credit benefit is being rolled out in the Honiton area and an East Devon District Council team is helping the town’s Jobcentre Plus to advise and assist applicants.

The district council is committed to supporting working age residents in the move to Universal Credit and working with Jobcentre Plus to deliver this important welfare change.

Universal Credit, which has been introduced by central Government, replaces six working age benefits:

  • Employment and Support Allowance (income related)
  • Income Support

Enterprise Holdings Foundation has donated £1000 to Step One to boost its mental health services.

Step One supports people to manage their mental health, achieve employment goals and live more independently.

The Exeter-based charity’s work includes providing a hospital in Devon for people experiencing a mental health crisis, and a community centre offering free courses and activities so people can manage their mental health and wellbeing.

Students at Newton Abbot’s pioneering technical college were put through their paces when a Royal Marine Chef visited to lead an energetic cooking masterclass.

Year 10 and Year 12 students of South Devon University Technical College (UTC) received a lesson in healthy cooking from Colour Sergeant Mike Beaton.
