Cat charity unveils plans for pioneering new UK-first adoption centre

Plans for Cats Protection’s trailblazing adoption centre in Exeter have been revealed and given the green light to proceed this summer, featuring pioneering facilities for cats, staff and visitors, including an enrichment garden.

The first building works, which will see a new adoption centre replace the feline welfare charity’s existing Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre at Clyst Honiton, are scheduled to begin by mid-June.

Law firm Browne Jacobson, which has an office in Exeter, has announced its financial results for 2020/21 with turnover rising 5% to a record £85m for the year ending 30 April 2021. This increase marks a 44% increase in revenues since 2015, when the firm’s turnover was £58.9m.

Devon County Council’s fostering service, Fostering Devon, is calling for people to consider offering emergency foster care to vulnerable children.

The new ‘Emergency Bed Scheme’ provides rapid support for children and young people, aged between 0 and 18 years old, who are unable to remain living in their current home and need an immediate place of safety at a time of crisis.

Foster carers providing emergency placements must have no other children at home so that they can accept any child or young person that needs a bed for up to seven nights.

The NHS in Devon has received a funding boost from a national programme to support its work in tackling long waiting lists for eye and joint surgery caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Volunteers from Exeter and the surrounding areas will soon be able to receive a third ‘booster’ COVID-19 vaccine through a new clinical trial launching this week, the Health Secretary has announced.

Exeter Cathedral School Pupil, Sammy, who is in Year 4, represented Devon Tennis at the Under 9 County Cup Regional Group Event in Bath on Saturday 15 May.
