Exeter teen one of just 31 chosen to advocate for young people as a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Youth Ambassador

A 16-year-old from Exeter has been selected as a UK Youth Ambassador for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), after finding confidence, new friendships and a love of hiking.

Josh Berry joins a cohort of just 31 DofE Award holders aged 16-24 from all over the UK, who will advocate for young people by sharing their experiences on key issues impacting them. Together, they will make young people’s voices heard by speaking at events, meeting key decision-makers in Parliament and beyond, and feeding into decisions to shape the direction of the DofE charity’s work.

A site manager for Bloor Homes in Bideford has been recognised with a prestigious award at the National House Builder Council’s (NHBC) South West Pride in the Job regional awards.

Additional funding for child pedestrian safety training

Devon County Council’s successful child pedestrian safety training for primary schoolchildren has received additional funding from Vision Zero South West to continue through to March 2028.

“Walkability” child pedestrian training launched last year, and more than 4,070 pupils from 48 schools in Exeter, North Devon and the surrounding area have so far taken part in the current pilot, which is delivered by Active Devon on behalf of Devon County Council and funded by Vision Zero South West.

The Good Space in Dawlish, Propeller in Exmouth, Tiverton Work Hub, and UNIT 2 CoWorking in Kingsbridge, are the latest additions to the expanding number of independently run, locally-focused work hubs across the county.

Homebuilder donates £1,000 to help children and young people facing bereavement in Devon

A Devon charity that supports children and young people suffering a bereavement has received a £1,000 donation from a local homebuilder.

Balloons, based in Exeter, was given the money by Bellway, which is building homes in the county in Crediton and Tiverton.

The charity offers a range of help to children and young people when someone significant in their lives has died or is about to die. This includes one-to-one support, group work, activity days, advice, information and resources.

Devon has been named one of the UK’s most haunted regions, according to new research by Where The Trade Buys , one of the UK’s leading print suppliers to the hospitality industry.
