Devon County Councillors today agreed plans aimed at keeping all the Council's libraries open and run by professional staff, despite significant reductions in the service's budget.
Members heard that Councils elsewhere have successfully transferred the delivery of their libraries to ‘mutuals’ or ‘trusts’ who run the libraries on the Councils’ behalf.
And that library staff, previously employed by those Councils, have been retained and continue to professionally run their libraries, with local communities having a greater say in how their libraries are run.
Three men from London have been given ASBOs preventing them from entering Devon or Cornwall. On the 7 October Devon and Cornwall Police were successful in obtaining ASBOs against the three individuals. They are Youseff Addow aged 28 years, Deeq Juni aged 33 years, and Issa Juni aged 25 years (all pictured).
The ASBO secured prevents the three men from entering the Counties of Devon and Cornwall for the next five years.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning of strong wind, with gusts of up to 60mph expected along exposed parts of the coast.
Forecasters say southwesterly winds will strengthen through this evening with gales expected overnight. Gusts are likely to reach 50mph quite widely, with 60mph gusts possible across exposed coasts and headlands. There will also be squally, thundery showers. Winds will then moderate through Thursday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses after burglars escaped with almost £700 worth of dog food from a store in Exeter. The offenders forced a rear door to break into Parr’s Farm Country Store at Matford sometime between 8.30pm on 29 September and 8.30am the next day. They stole 40 bags of dried dog food, valued at £695 and in distinctive green and white plastic bags containing the letters CJS in large print. The haul included 30 15kg bags of CJS adult champ dog food and 10 15kg bags of CJS mixed dog food. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles or individuals...
A major upgrade to the car parks at the Devon County Show is under way, following the situation at this year’s show, when heavy rain made the car parks unusable, so forcing the cancellation of the third day.
The work is being led and co-ordinated by the Devon County Agricultural Association and supported by the Environment Agency, Devon County Council, South West Highways and Mole Valley Farmers.
