Explore Killerton after dark with a night run

On Saturday 22 November, runners, joggers and active youngsters can experience a new night time running event at Killerton Estate near Exeter.

Killerton Night Run offers two cross-country distances to either walk or run. Both the 1.5k Explore Route and the more challenging 6k Adventure Route are traffic free and marshalled by volunteers. Mulled wine and hot food will also be on sale.

Major Devon waste plan approved

Devon County Council has welcomed the Inspector’s report on the Devon Waste Plan.

Following the examination hearings into the Devon Waste Plan that were held this summer, the report concludes that, with the modifications recommended by the Inspector, the Plan is sound and provides an appropriate basis for waste planning in Devon over the period to 2031.

It is now the responsibility of the County Council to consider the adoption of the Plan, which is anticipated by December 2014.

Local and regional sports leaders will join college governors, staff, civic leaders, local sports partnerships and students to celebrate the official opening of Exeter College's £1.4 million Exwick Sports hub on Thursday (16 October), the latest phase of the college’s £14 million sports investment programme.

The Exwick Sports Pavilion provides modern classrooms and changing areas complementing the existing playing fields and court areas that offers college students and community groups cricket, football and tennis facilities.

The Grand Western Canal Country Park has topped off its bicentenary year by winning a prestigious award for Parks and Open Spaces.

Dementia centre of excellence completed

Work to redevelop a Devon County Council residential care home in Newton Abbot into a modern, state-of-the-art centre of excellence for people with dementia has finished two weeks ahead of schedule.

Mapleton was developed in partnership with the University of Stirling Dementia Centre, which is nationally recognised for setting the standards for dementia-friendly buildings. Devon-based Midas was in charge of the construction and building work.
