The Green Party has launched its General Election Manifesto, ‘For the Common Good’.

Greens say the manifesto, which can be found here , sets out a bold, ambitious plan for a fairer society and safer planet and there is a strong emphasis on commitments to restoring and extending public services and tackling climate change.

Key pledges include tackling climate change by taking action to limit emissions at home, fighting for a new global deal and investing up to £80 billion over the next Parliament in renewable generation and energy efficiency.

Dom Morris, Exeter's Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, has announced the first step of his “100 days of action” campaign to tackle one of Exeter’s biggest problems – homelessness.

Dom said: "The level of homelessness in Exeter is unacceptable and immoral, the problem flies in the face of the recent prosperity our city has enjoyed.

"Exeter is becoming extraordinary. Unemployment in our city has fallen by 58% since the Conservatives came to power in 2010, national trends are seeing youth unemployment falling by the fastest rate since records began and those on benefits...

Crowdcube predicts record-breaking year

Crowdcube, the investment crowdfunding platform, is set for its best year ever following a stellar first quarter, which saw 36 businesses raise £17.5 million and £24 million invested through the site.

Exeter women urged to get pretty muddy

Exeter charity workers are urging women to fight dirty when it comes to conquering cancer - by signing up now for an exciting new event from Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.

Ruth Chamings, 28, who manages Exeter Race for Life and volunteer Maxine Bateman, 28, (pictured) stood proud together, donned in mud war paint and battle headdress to beckon ladies of the city to join them.

Pretty Muddy is a women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course – with added mud. It will take place for the first time in the city at Westpoint Exeter on Saturday, July 25.

All change at Rundlewalker

It’s been a busy time for Exeter Solicitors Rundlewalker who have just launched an apprenticeship scheme, completed an office move and taken on five new members of staff.

But the office move won’t affect its clients very much – they are still based on the stunning location of Exeter Quayside on Kings Wharf but they have moved to a more suitable suite of offices with even better views of the River Exe.

Fund encourages new ideas on tackling waste

Bids are being invited from innovative schemes which can reduce household waste and increase recycling across Devon.

The Devon Authorities Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee (DAWRRC), which represents a partnership between the seven District Councils, Exeter City Council, Torbay Council and Devon County Council, is offering the Innovation Fund to stimulate new approaches to reducing, reusing or recycling household waste in Devon. From today (13 April) selected schemes have the opportunity to share in a £4,000 fund.

Exeter home badly damaged by fire

A property in the Heavitree area of Exeter was badly damaged by fire last night

Fire crews received several calls for a house on fire in Sampsons Lane, shortly after 11pm.

Appliances from Danes Castle and Middlemoor attended.

On arrival, crews requested for further appliances to be mobilised and confirmed the property was well alight.

Additional appliances were sent from Danes Castle, Topsham and the Incident Command Unit from Honiton.

Fire crews got to work to extinguish the fire using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one main jet....

'Wolf lookalike’ concern

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, is bracing itself for an influx of ‘wolf lookalike’ breeds following the start of series five of the popular Games of Thrones.

In 2014, Dogs Trust took in 175 Huskies and 35 Malamutes, across their 20 Rehoming Centres in the UK, meaning that the number of these breeds taken in by the charity has more than tripled in the past four years.

Cancer mum's life-saving plea

A Tiverton mum fighting cancer is backing an appeal from Cancer Research UK to save more lives, as new figures show one in two people will be diagnosed with the disease.

With around three weeks to go until the General Election, Ellie King, 32, is rallying people across the South West to get behind the charity’s Cross Cancer Out campaign and make sure their future MP is committed to beating cancer sooner.

Ellie was preparing for the birth of her baby in November 2012 when she received the news that no expecting mother would ever wish to hear – that she had cancer.
