Come along to A la Ronde and stock up on reading and reference books during our annual bumper second hand book sale from Saturday 29 to Monday 31 August, 11am - 4pm. You will be able to browse a wide and varied range of titles and authors, including reference, fiction, children’s and antiquarian books. The sale is in the marquee and entry is free. All funds raised go towards conservation work of the unique and quirky collection in the house. A la Ronde is open 7 days a week. Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is opening its doors to the public for a family open day on Saturday 5 September.

Everyone is welcome to come along to learn more about the work of firefighters and how they can make their homes safer.

The event will be held at Service Headquarters, near Exeter, on Saturday 5 September, 10am-4pm. Funds will be raised for Hospiscare Exmouth & Lympstone and the Fire Fighters Charity.

New Tithebarn Link Road opens to traffic

The new £4.2 million Tithebarn Link Road will be open to traffic this evening. (Friday 28th August)

The road provides an alternative link between the city and the Exeter and East Devon Growth Point, connecting the existing Tithebarn Lane bridge and the northern end of Science Park to the new roundabout on Cumberland Way. The improvements will help tackle congestion and improve the resilience of both the A30 and M5.

Solar panels to go up on Exeter car parks

Exeter's King William Street car park, including the Leighton Terrace section, will be closed on Tuesday (1 September) - for one day only - to allow for the installation of solar panels.

John Lewis car park will remain open as normal and the nearest alternative Pay & Display car park will be Howell Road.

The pioneering initiative at John Lewis and Mary Arches Street Car Parks is being delivered by Devon firm Sungift Energy on behalf of Exeter City Council.

ForFarmers to invest £10m in Exeter feed mill redevelopment‏

ForFarmers has today announced plans to build a new manufacturing facility on its Exeter site.

The new facility will replace the current facility on Sowton Industrial Estate, and will create one of the largest, most efficient feed mills in the UK and the largest in the South West.

Train strike to go ahead this weekend

Strike action will cause disruption to trains running through the South West over the bank holiday weekend.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union at First Great Western are due to walk out for three days from Saturday 29 August after the latest talks between the railway operator and the rail union broke down.

The union is in dispute over the threat to jobs, services and safety with the introduction of new high-speed trains.

RMT members have been told not to work between 12.01am on Saturday 29 August and 11.59pm on Monday 31 August.

Football clubs across Devon are launching crowdfunding projects to raise the funds they need for more sustainable, community led futures.

Following the announcement of a partnership between Devon FA and the UK’s leading crowdfunding platform, Crowdfunder, the first FA clubs across the county are launching funding projects for their football kit, equipment, competitions and larger capital builds. Thousands ‘too tired’ to clean their teeth

A new study reveals that thousands of people could be putting their oral health at risk by not brushing their teeth in the evening because they are too tired.

The survey of 10,000 UK adults, commissioned by GSK, as part of its Love Your Mouth campaign ( www.loveyourmouth.co.uk ) found that 45% of people questioned say they have gone to bed without brushing their teeth, which could increase their chances of cavities, gum disease and even tooth loss.

Exeter Pound launches next month

On Tuesday 1 September the local currency for Exeter goes live as the Exeter Pound is launched in front of Exeter Cathedral between 10.30am and noon. At 11am the first Exeter Pound will be spent by the Lord Mayor of Exeter.
