Speciesism: The Movie is a new species of documentary. It takes viewers on a sometimes funny, sometimes frightening adventure across North America, exposing the biggest secrets about modern factory farms, and asking the biggest questions about the belief that our species is more important than the rest.

You’ll never look at animals the same way again. Especially humans.

Family Day at Exeter Racecourse on Wednesday (March 30), sponsored by Finlake Holiday Park, will be a feast of education and entertainment that is free for all children aged 17 and under.

Two pony races begin the day’s action at 1pm followed by seven races. Interspersed with that will be a behind the scenes tour of the racecourse starting atnoon – meet outside the weighing room - led by Rob Bellamy of Racing To School. Devon school wins national role to train teachers of the future

A Mid Devon primary has been selected to become a National Teaching School and help train the teachers and education leaders of the future.

The Duchy School at Bradninch is just one of 54 schools to have been appointed this year throughout the country.

Teaching Schools take a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession.

They also identify and develop leadership potential, provide support for other schools and work to raise standards of teaching.

Devon caravan fire sparks smoke alarm call

Caravan owners are being encouraged to install smoke alarms after a family escaped from a fire which destroyed their mobile home at a caravan park near Sidmouth.

Two fire crews from Sidmouth attended the incident at Kingsdown Tail caravan park, Salcombe Regis, early in the morning of 20 March.

The family was asleep inside the caravan and the alarm was raised by a passer-by who saw smoke coming out. The occupants were unaware of the fire at the time as there were no smoke alarms installed.

The Chairman of East Devon District Council, Councillor Stuart Hughes was joined at Knowle in Sidmouth on Monday 14 March 2016 by 14 enthusiastic pupils from Sidmouth Primary School who came to watch the raising of the Commonwealth Flag in celebration of a partnership between Toilet Twinning and Fly-a-Flag for the Commonwealth. PATIENTS at North Devon District Hospital and community hospitals were given an opportunity to try different foods as part of Nutrition and Hydration Week 2016.

The global awareness campaign – from Monday 14 March to Sunday 20 March – aimed to highlight the importance of nutrition and hydration in improving the safety and outcomes of patients.

New Government strategy launched to encourage travelling by bike or on foot

A blueprint to encourage more walking and cycling is being launched by the Government today (Sunday 27 March).

The new strategy has a clear ambition that by 2040 getting around by bike or on foot will be the natural choice for shorter journeys, or as part of a longer journey.

It includes ambitions to double cycling, reverse the decline in walking, reduce the rate of cyclists killed or seriously injured and increase the number of children walking to school.
